Today, Zimbabwe takes the spotlight in the field of information preservation and knowledge management as President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa officially opens the 28th Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ESARBICA) Conference.
Taking place at the prestigious Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls, the conference brings together archivists, researchers, policymakers, and information professionals from across the continent. This year’s theme, “Archives are Accessible — Archives for Everyone,” underscores the critical role of archives in promoting transparency, accountability, and equal access to information in modern governance.
The theme highlights the need to make archives available to all people, irrespective of their social status or location, aligning with global movements toward open information and inclusivity.
President Mnangagwa’s participation signals Zimbabwe’s strong dedication to information equity, regional collaboration, and the digital transformation of public archives. The ESARBICA 2025 program will cover key topics, including:

• Embracing digital innovation and preservation
• Supporting community-driven archiving and indigenous knowledge systems
