Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife half-year highlights
The first six months of the year have been a busy and productive period for Zimbabwe's Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife. From hosting major regional conferences to launching new national initiatives, the country has been making significant strides in its commitment to environmental protection and climate action. Here are some of the key highlights from their recent half-year newsletter:
· Zimbabwe hosted the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA) Conference and Summit, bringing together regional leaders to strengthen cross-border conservation efforts.
· The nation officially launched its Carbon Registry, a crucial step that will help track, manage, and verify carbon reduction initiatives across the country.
· A new commitment was made to conserve soaring birds by signing the Raptors Memorandum of Understanding, joining international efforts to conserve Migratory Birds of Prey across Africa and Eurasia.
· Zimbabwe's delegates were active on the world stage, attending the Global Disaster Risk Conference in Geneva, the 3rd United Nations Oceans Conference, and the 62nd Session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
· The Mock COP15 Pavilion was unveiled at the ZITF, showcasing innovative climate solutions and highlighting the critical role of young people in shaping a sustainable future.
· The country widely commemorated World Wildlife Day and World Environment Day with various events and campaigns aimed at raising public awareness.
