John Dory Seafood Market .ae just opened at The Market Island, Dubai Festival City Mall — and it’s not your typical seafood experience.

More than a restaurant, it’s a full head-to-tail ecosystem: sustainable, theatrical, and surprisingly emotional. Founded by two Eastern European friends in a garage — now serving Greek sea bass and tuna from Seychelles — it’s Dubai’s most stylish answer to seafood with a soul.

Think dry-aged tuna, flame-grilled Galician octopus, and French oysters chosen via blind tastings. Kombucha on tap. Smoked trout so chic you’ll want it on display.

In July, the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall in Riyadh hosted a storytelling exhibition.

“Lingering in the Light” by Diana Smykova and Maria Motyleva traced women’s stories across Saudi Arabia — told not through words, but through fabric, gestures, shadows, and care.

We spoke to the artists about memory, craft, and the lives behind the work. Read the full interview on sandytimes.ae

We’ve got a new look — and it’s bold, bright, and full of personality. Just like the artist behind it.

The new logo of The Sandy Times was created by Ibrahim Zaki .ibrahimzaki — a graphic designer and calligrapher with roots in Saudi Arabia and Palestine, now based in Dubai. His work bursts with humour, energy, and rhythm — a visual reflection of who he is. He once helped his dad paint signs. Today, he’s designing for brands like Ray-Ban, BRED Abu Dhabi — and us.

Meet the man behind the letters.

When does an AI filter stop being fun and start becoming a problem?

It was all cartoon dogs and Renaissance selfies — until Billie Eilish “appeared” at the Met Gala in a dress she never wore, at an event she never attended. What starts as playful fantasy can quickly turn into reputational chaos — especially when millions are watching.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s really going on.

Meet Zainab Alsabba — a Bahraini artist, designer, and architect whose work speaks in quiet, powerful ways.

We first saw her work Lines at the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennale: fading words that captured silence, loss, and the weight of what’s unsaid. From thread to hangers to canvas — even stitching herself into her work — her art is deeply personal, emotional, and raw.

We asked her to share the story behind it. Read the full interview on sandytimes.ae

He never planned to become a chef — but today, Chef Biman Rai leads the kitchen at Dragonfly .dxb, a Michelin-recommended restaurant in Dubai.

The restaurant reflects his quiet focus and thoughtful approach — from black cod cured over 72 hours to light, citrusy tempura made in minutes. He cooks with care, listens to feedback, and believes good food begins with good communication — both in the kitchen and beyond.

We spoke to him about flavour, leadership, and the craft behind every dish.

Abdullah Alshehri photographed legends — but his true masterpiece might be the archive he’s building.

From capturing Maradona in a quiet, human moment to documenting the faces shaping Saudi culture, he’s been behind the lens for more than 15 years — guided by instinct, emotion, and a signature black-and-white aesthetic.
