Dubai is fast-tracking the $35 billion expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), set to become the world’s largest when fully complete.
🚧 Key Updates:
• New AED1 billion contract awarded for a second runway
• Initial phase (to finish by 2032) will handle 150 million passengers/year
• Full capacity: 260 million passengers and 12 million tons of cargo
🏗️ The expansion will:
• Support 1 million residents in Dubai South
• Create thousands of jobs in aviation, logistics, construction, real estate & more
• Include advanced tech like biometric check-ins, smart baggage handling, and AI-powered systems
🛬 As DXB nears full capacity, DWC will take over in a single, coordinated shift to avoid disruptions. The 70 sq km mega-airport will feature:
• 2 terminals, 7 concourses, 400+ gates
• Automated people movers, underground trains, and borderless travel experience
💬 Officials say the airport will be a “technological marvel” and a key part of Dubai’s long-term growth strategy.
