The 1 fils coin is the lowest denomination of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dirham equivalent to 0.01 AED. First introduced in 1973 these bronze (later copper-plated steel) coins feature three palm trees on the reverse. Due to their low value they are rare in circulation and primarily used by collectors.
