From catering contracts to luxury skyscrapers, Hussain Sajwani has built one of the Middle East's most recognised business empires.

After beginning his career in finance and launching a successful catering company serving clients including Bechtel and the U.S. military, Sajwani recognised Dubai's emerging potential when the emirate introduced freehold property ownership for foreign buyers. He founded DAMAC Properties in 2002, establishing what would become one of the region's leading luxury real estate developers.

Over the years, DAMAC has become known for its branded developments, partnering with internationally recognised names including Versace, Bugatti, Roberto Cavalli and Paramount Hotels & Resorts. The company has also expanded beyond property through DAMAC Group, with investments spanning hospitality, logistics and digital infrastructure.

Today, Hussain Sajwani remains one of the most influential figures in the UAE's business landscape, helping shape not only Dubai's skyline but also its reputation as a global destination for luxury real estate and investment.

Every summer, date palms across the UAE begin their annual harvest—a tradition that has sustained communities for thousands of years. Long before oil transformed the Emirates, the date palm was one of the country's most valuable natural resources, providing food, shelter, trade and livelihoods for generations of Emiratis.

The harvest is more than an agricultural season; it is a celebration of heritage. Farmers carefully gather the fruit by hand, continuing practices that have been passed down through generations. While modern techniques have improved cultivation, the values of patience, craftsmanship and respect for the land remain at the heart of every harvest.

No leader understood the importance of the date palm more than the UAE's Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. A firm believer in protecting the country's natural heritage, Sheikh Zayed championed large-scale agricultural initiatives that transformed the UAE's landscape, encouraging the planting of millions of date palms across the nation. He recognised that preserving the date palm meant preserving a vital part of the country's identity, history and food security.

Today, the UAE is one of the world's leading producers of dates, cultivating hundreds of varieties that are enjoyed locally and exported around the globe. Yet beyond their economic value, dates continue to embody the generosity, hospitality and resilience that define Emirati culture.
