Samarkand International Airport is the main gateway to one of Uzbekistanโ€™s most historic cities. With a newly renovated terminal, it serves both domestic and international travelers, offering flights from major cities like Dubai, Istanbul, and Moscow. If youโ€™re a Frugal Explorer looking to save money while navigating this airport, hereโ€™s everything you need to know!

๐Ÿ“ Distance from the city: 6 km (3.7 miles) northeast of Samarkand city center.
๐Ÿš— Travel time: Around 15-20 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

๐Ÿ’ฐ For the Frugal Explorer, hereโ€™s how to avoid expensive airport transfers:
๐Ÿš Public Bus / Marshrutka (๐Ÿ’ฒCHEAPEST โ€“ Under $1)

โ–ถ๏ธLocal buses and marshrutkas (shared minibuses) run from the airport to the city center.
โ–ถ๏ธLook for Route 10 or 73, which passes near Registan Square and central areas.
โ–ถ๏ธFare: Around 2,000-5,000 UZS ($0.20-$0.50).
โ–ถ๏ธDownside: It can be crowded and has no luggage storage.
๐Ÿš– Yandex Go / Indriver Taxi Apps (๐Ÿ’ฒ๐Ÿ’ฒAFFORDABLE)

Yandex Go (Uzbekistanโ€™s version of Uber) and Indriver offer cheaper rides than regular taxis.
Estimated fare: 25,000-40,000 UZS ($2-$4).
Tip: Use the "cash" option if your card doesnโ€™t work.
๐Ÿš– Regular Taxi (๐Ÿ’ฒ๐Ÿ’ฒ๐Ÿ’ฒEXPENSIVE โ€“ Negotiate!)

Airport taxis may overcharge tourists (expect them to ask for 100,000 UZS or more!).
Negotiate hardโ€”a fair price should be 30,000-40,000 UZS ($3-$4).
Alternative: Walk outside the airport to find cheaper taxis.
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Walking (For the Ultra-Frugal Adventurer!)

If you travel light, walking to the city is possible in about 1 hour.
Itโ€™s safe during the day, but sidewalks may be uneven.

๐Ÿ’ผ Luggage Storage: Limited optionsโ€”best to carry your bags.
๐Ÿ’ธ Currency Exchange & ATMs:

Airport exchange rates are not the bestโ€”only change a small amount.
ATMs inside the airport accept Visa & Mastercard (but carry cash as a backup!).
๐Ÿ“ถ Wi-Fi: Available but can be slow.
๐Ÿฝ Food & Drinks:
A few small cafรฉs, but prices are higher than in the city.
Pro Tip: Bring snacks and a refillable water bottle to save money!
๐Ÿ› Souvenirs: Small duty-free shops, but youโ€™ll find better deals at Siyob Bazaar in town.

โœ… Download Yandex Go before your trip for affordable taxis.
โœ… Bring small UZS billsโ€”many taxis and vendors wonโ€™t have change for large notes.
โœ… Buy a SIM card in the cityโ€”airport SIM cards are pricier.
โœ… Avoid exchanging large amounts of money at the airportโ€”get better rates in town.
