After a smooth train ride from Samarkand, we’ve finally arrived at 𝗧𝗼𝘀𝗵𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶𝘆 𝗩𝗼𝗸𝘇𝗮𝗹 (𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻)! 🌟 This station is one of Tashkent’s major railway hubs, connecting travelers to different parts of Uzbekistan.

✨ 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
🚄 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 & 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 – Traveling by train is one of the best budget-friendly ways to explore Uzbekistan.

💼 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 – The station is well-organized, making it convenient for both locals and tourists.

If you’re traveling by train in Uzbekistan, arrive at the station at least 30 minutes early to avoid any last-minute rush! Also, keep your passport and ticket handy for security checks.

Next on our Samarkand adventure is one of the most magnificent sights in the city – 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗶-𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗺 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲! 💙

Built in the 14th century by the great conqueror Amir Timur (Tamerlane), this mosque was once one of the largest and most impressive in the Islamic world. Even today, its towering blue domes, intricate tilework, and massive entrance gate leave visitors in awe! 😍

Legend has it that the mosque was commissioned by Timur’s favorite wife, Bibi-Khanum, as a surprise for his return from conquest. However, the architect fell in love with her and demanded a kiss to complete the mosque. When Timur found out… well, let’s just say it didn’t end well! 😅

After exploring the breathtaking 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗵-𝗶-𝗭𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮, our next stop was the 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗿𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗵𝗶𝘇𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲—a hidden gem in Samarkand that offers both history and stunning views. 🕌✨

This mosque holds deep cultural and religious significance, believed to be named after Khizr, the immortal saint of travelers. It’s said that if you visit this mosque before starting a journey, you’ll have a safe and blessed trip—so of course, we had to stop by!

Unlike the grand blue domes of Samarkand, Hazrat Khizr stands out with its elegant wooden pillars, intricate carvings, and panoramic views of the city. Perched on a hill, it offers one of the best spots to admire Samarkand’s skyline.

One of the most breathtaking places in Samarkand is the 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗵-𝗶-𝗭𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅, and trust me—it’s a sight you won’t forget! 💙✨

Known as the “𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱,” this collection of mausoleums and tombs dates back over 1,000 years and is the final resting place of royals, nobles, and religious figures. But don’t let the name fool you—this place is full of life, color, and history.

The vibrant blue tiles, intricate mosaics, and towering arches make every corner feel like stepping into a fairy tale. Each tomb tells a story, with different designs and patterns showcasing the art and culture of ancient Samarkand.

Walking through Shah-i-Zinda felt like traveling back in time, surrounded by centuries of history and breathtaking architecture. If you ever visit Samarkand, this UNESCO-listed gem is an absolute must-see!

Hey Frugal Explorers!

Since we’re only staying in Samarkand for one day, I want to share the places I visited and the stories behind them with all of you! 🌍✨

After arriving at Samarkand International Airport and getting through customs, we hopped into a Yandex taxi (super easy to use!) to head to Samarkand Restaurant for our first meal of the day. 🛺🍽️ It's always great to kick off the adventure with some good food, and the lunch here definitely set the tone for our day!

First Stop – Lunch at Samarkand Restaurant:

We had a delicious meal of chicken cordon bleu and fresh pomegranate juice, which was super tasty and refreshing. After filling up, it was time to hit the streets and dive into the major attractions in Samarkand.

Hey, Frugal Explorers!

I’m currently exploring the incredible country of Uzbekistan, and I’ve got some important currency tips to share with you while I’m here!

𝗨𝘇𝗯𝗲𝗸 𝗦𝗼𝗺 (𝗨𝗭𝗦) – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄:

The official currency is the Uzbek Som (UZS), and you’ll find bills in 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, and 50,000 denominations.
Tiyin coins exist but aren’t used much, so don’t worry about carrying those around.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆:
Best Exchange Locations: I recommend exchanging your money at local banks or currency exchange offices for better rates than at airports or hotels.

𝗔𝗧𝗠𝘀: There are ATMs in the bigger cities like Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara, but be cautious of fees. Sometimes, ATMs dispense large denominations, so make sure you carry smaller notes for convenience.

𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝘃𝘀. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀:
Cash is Essential: In many places, especially smaller towns or local markets, cash is still preferred. Don’t rely solely on cards, as they’re not always accepted outside larger cities.

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:
Cards work in high-end restaurants, hotels, and shops in major cities, but cash is a must for daily transactions.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗽 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴:
If you’re heading to more rural or remote areas (like I am!), make sure to have enough cash with you since ATMs may be far apart.

Samarkand International Airport is the main gateway to one of Uzbekistan’s most historic cities. With a newly renovated terminal, it serves both domestic and international travelers, offering flights from major cities like Dubai, Istanbul, and Moscow. If you’re a Frugal Explorer looking to save money while navigating this airport, here’s everything you need to know!

𝟭.) 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
📍 Distance from the city: 6 km (3.7 miles) northeast of Samarkand city center.
🚗 Travel time: Around 15-20 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

𝟮.) 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 & 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁
💰 For the Frugal Explorer, here’s how to avoid expensive airport transfers:
🚍 Public Bus / Marshrutka (💲CHEAPEST – Under $1)

▶️Local buses and marshrutkas (shared minibuses) run from the airport to the city center.
▶️Look for Route 10 or 73, which passes near Registan Square and central areas.
▶️Fare: Around 2,000-5,000 UZS ($0.20-$0.50).
▶️Downside: It can be crowded and has no luggage storage.
🚖 Yandex Go / Indriver Taxi Apps (💲💲AFFORDABLE)

Yandex Go (Uzbekistan’s version of Uber) and Indriver offer cheaper rides than regular taxis.
Estimated fare: 25,000-40,000 UZS ($2-$4).
Tip: Use the "cash" option if your card doesn’t work.
🚖 Regular Taxi (💲💲💲EXPENSIVE – Negotiate!)

Airport taxis may overcharge tourists (expect them to ask for 100,000 UZS or more!).
Negotiate hard—a fair price should be 30,000-40,000 UZS ($3-$4).
Alternative: Walk outside the airport to find cheaper taxis.
