Ahh, mood boards.
It's that one thing I would always start working on before jumping on to a new creative project (I guess everyone does, too).
But why do we do that?
Imagine you're planning to redecorate your apartment or villa. You have an idea of what you want it to look and feel like, but it could be more apparent in your mind. And, so, that's where the mood boards come in.
A mood board is a visual and emotional roadmap that helps you see the bigger picture of what and how you want to do it. For brands, starting with a mood board and connecting it with your client is essential to ensure you're both in the same boat.
How does it work, and why it's important?
It sets the tone: Consider it setting the mood for your apartment. In branding, it's about setting the tone and personality of a brand. Will it be a fun and playful feel or something more elegant and severe? The mood board will help you decide.
Visual Inspo: Collecting the visuals inspires the brand's look and feel that resonates with its identity and personality.Consistency: A mood board ensures that all the design elements are consistent. You wouldn't want your apartment to have a mix of neon colors and vintage furniture - it would feel chaotic.
A communication tool: This helps you and anyone involved understand the brand's essence and vision.
It's evolving: A mood board is a flexible tool that allows everyone to make the necessary adjustments as the brand develops.
Mood boards are creative blueprints that help us shape a brand's personality and visual representation right from the start. They make the design process more tangible and ensure everyone is on the same page. So, whether it's a cozy room or a memorable brand, mood boards are your visual guide to bring your vision to life.
