Lady Mauve

Lady Mauve Lady Mauve Est. 2011 Melissah Russo uses her label Lady Mauve to express her eclectic approach to fashion and design.

Through unique jewellery her label reflects the bohemian pursuit of individualism. Like its designer, Lady Mauve is constantly evolving, progressing and challenging, season by season. Borrowing the traditional silhouette of Japanese society, Melissah crafts the kimono into a jacket perfect for the urban woman. She sources textiles, vintage materials, beads, crystals and stones from around the worl

d, creating a label that truly captures a global movement. It is worn by women who are independent dreamers and explorers. Utilizing quality fabrics and vibrant color schemes, Lady Mauve kimonos fall effortlessly with the natural contours of the female body. Melissah’s beading technique is an organic process of selection and arrangement. She experiments with different methods of threading, weaving and crimping to create pieces with the distinctive individuality that her label is renowned for. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Melissah’s inspirations echo the unconventional environment she was raised in. From an early age, Melissah was surrounded by musicians, artists and creatives from all walks of life. Her parents were part of the post-punk scene of the 70s and 80s and she grew up listening to her dad’s punk band, La Femme. Melissah’s aspirations as a child, to transgress conformity, is translated in the way she designs Lady Mauve and her demanding eye for fashion stems from experiences wandering city streets in over 30 different countries. After living in the Emirates for 4 years, Melissah yearned for an aesthetic that was missing from the Dubai fashion circuit. To fill that void, she started creating jewellery from materials she found in Paris flea markets, Brooklyn op shops, souks in Lebanon and garage sales in Melbourne. In 2010, Melissah decided to share her designs with those who also felt that missing identity and she launched Lady Mauve. Lady Mauve’s studio walls are covered with her husband’s graffiti paintings and images of Frida Kahlo, Vali Myers and Fab Ciraolo are there to remind her to always challenge the boundaries of her imagination. Paying homage to Lady Pink, New York’s first female graffiti writer, Lady Mauve has also evolved into an influential and bold woman. Lady Mauve has been featured in Fashion Forward, Dubai's biggest fashion event, Time Out, Style Dubai, Good Housekeeping magazine and is gaining fast recognition from the fashion industry.
