Kuwait has introduced a new long-term residency scheme that allows foreign investors and their families to obtain residence permits for up to 15 years.

The measure, published in the official gazette Kuwait Al-Youm on Sunday, is designed to attract international investment, boost capital inflows, and strengthen Kuwait’s position as a regional hub for direct investment.

Under the new framework, long-term residency will be available to business owners, investment partners, company managers, and senior executives holding approved positions, along with eligible family members, including spouses, children, and parents.

According to the regulation, investor residency permits may be issued by the General Department of Residency Affairs at the Ministry of Interior following a recommendation from the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA). Applicants must satisfy a number of requirements, including holding a valid investment license issued by KDIPA.

Candidates must also have a clean criminal record, a passport with at least six months of validity remaining, and supporting documents certified by the investment entity, which will be legally responsible for the accuracy of the information provided.

In addition, sponsoring investment entities must meet specific financial and technical criteria, including maintaining investments worth at least KD5 million and a minimum capital of KD1 million, with evidence that the capital has been deposited within Kuwait.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) is continuing its efforts to accelerate digital transformation across the UAE’s higher education sector, with plans to simplify services for students and universities while improving efficiency through data and artificial intelligence.
The ministry said its digital transformation programme aims to improve the student journey and enhance services provided to higher education institutions by reducing procedures and creating a more connected and user-friendly system.

The move is designed to simplify processes and provide a smoother experience through a unified platform focused on two main customer journeys one for students and another for higher education institutions.
Four key pillars
The ministry said its transformation strategy is built around four main areas: improving efficiency through automation, developing proactive and personalised services, ensuring digital accessibility for all users, and expanding the use of artificial intelligence across operations and services.

Nepalese security guard wins Dh30 million UAE Lottery jackpot, turns 4 friends into millionaires

Tayab Khan came to the UAE from Nepal four years ago hoping to build a brighter future. Now, the 26-year-old security guard has landed a life-changing Dh30 million jackpot after becoming the first Grand Prize winner under The UAE Lottery’s current Lucky Day jackpot format.

The Abu Dhabi-based resident was not watching the draw when the winning numbers were revealed. Instead, he discovered the news after receiving an email notification.

“I’ve received emails before about smaller winnings, so I didn’t pay much attention at first,” Tayab said. “But when I opened it and saw Dh30 million, I couldn’t believe it. My hands and legs were trembling. It felt unreal.”

The winning ticket was purchased as part of a group arrangement among five close friends who regularly contributed money together to enter lottery draws. The jackpot will be divided equally, with each friend taking home Dh6 million.

Dubai Police have cautioned residents about an increase in fraudulent chalet rentals, holiday home offers, and travel booking scams as the summer travel period approaches.

In one incident, a resident lost Dh8,000 after paying both a deposit and a so-called refundable insurance charge for a chalet advertised online at a highly attractive rate. Once the money was transferred, the advertiser could no longer be contacted.

Officials say scammers frequently copy photos from legitimate property listings and repost them with unusually low prices to convince victims to send money quickly.

Warning signs include:
• Deals that appear significantly cheaper than market rates
• Urgent demands for payment
• Requests for deposits before any property inspection
• Payments directed to personal or unfamiliar bank accounts

Dubai Police advise residents to verify all rental listings, work only with licensed businesses, and avoid transferring funds until they have viewed the property and completed the necessary official agreements.

Jobs, remittances to decline in Middle East as companies postpone hiring amid war

The ongoing conflict is starting to weigh on the labour market, with companies across the MENA region reportedly putting recruitment plans on hold due to rising uncertainty.

“Trade, tourism and investment are being disrupted, with no immediate recovery in sight.”

A new report warns that slower employment growth could also reduce remittance flows from GCC countries, where expatriates account for a large portion of the private-sector workforce.

When anxiety becomes overwhelming, the sharp taste of sour candy may help break the cycle of distress by redirecting attention to a strong physical sensation. The intense flavor engages the brain’s taste-processing centers, drawing focus away from fear-related activity that often becomes heightened during anxious moments.

Sour foods can also trigger increased saliva production, a response linked to the parasympathetic nervous system, which plays a role in helping the body settle and recover from stress.

Mental health professionals often compare this technique to sensory grounding strategies used in therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Approaches like the 5-4-3-2-1 exercise and TIPP skills are designed to anchor attention in the present and reduce emotional overwhelm.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders affect millions of adults each year. While sour candy can be a useful short-term coping tool, it is not a substitute for treatment. Ongoing anxiety is best managed through evidence-based support from qualified mental health professionals.
