Unlock Brands’ Future with Mixed Reality

Big brands that we know and love are always evolving their image. Whether it's to stay fresh, refine their marketing, or for other reasons — just take Pepsi for example. Over the past 15 years, Pepsi updated their logo to something that echoes the design they used from 1987 to 1997. The true genius of a brand lies in its ability to remain instantly recognizable, no matter how it transforms.

So, how can marketing grab attention during a rebrand? We've got the answer and a real success story to share.

Recently, Yandex, one of Russia's largest brands, reached out to us. They offer a wide range of services, from grocery delivery to taxi rides and a book app. They needed a social media campaign to engage residents across different cities as they rebrand. A key part of this was integrating all Yandex's mobile apps into one streamlined platform. So, how do we creatively tackle this?

We quickly came up with a solution, leveraging our past experience — not just with similar projects but also with Yandex.

8 cities, 8 videos, 1 rebrand. We featured the most iconic landmarks in each city to spark local curiosity and emotion, driving our campaign's visibility on news portals. We turned our creative vision into reality in just one month.

The result? See yourself in the video.

At our studio, we focus on providing top-notch marketing solutions that truly resonate. If you're ready to boost your brand's presence and story, we're here to support you every step of the way.

How to train CGI dragon?

Over 160. That's the number of projects our studio, Lagom CGI, has brought to life in just three years. We take the familiar reality — streets, buildings, cities — and flip it upside down with the power of graphic design. It evokes emotions, grabs attention, puzzles, and hooks you in. That's why the number of our projects is ever-growing.

In our blog, we often share the inside scoop on our work on individual projects, but how does this massive transformation of space actually happen?

It might surprise you, but the first thing we do, after agreeing on the idea, is shoot a clip with an iPhone (unless the project requires Full CGI — we’ll cover that in a future post). In addition, using a specialized program called HDREye we scan the world around us through the lens of the operator, capturing every angle, to gather a wealth of visual data that we later upload into our professional software. This ensures that the lighting, shadows, and reflections in the graphics are perfectly realistic.

The second crucial stage is tracking. To put it simply, this involves a specialist analyzing the video data to extract information about camera movement and the 3D scene, because the video itself is in 2D. If we simplify it, it’s like laying the hooks that our 3D objects will later latch onto.

Once tracking is done, we add 3D objects to our recreated three-dimensional space. It's almost like Minecraft, but with the settings cranked up to the max. Sometimes we use ready-made 3D models, sometimes we customize them to suit our needs, and occasionally we create them from scratch — as we did for a commercial for the Lenta hypermarket, which we wrote about, or for Saint Mob, which will be featured in our next week’s post. In such cases, a modeling and texturing steps are added.

Moreover, it's crucial not just to place objects within the scene, but also to animate them so they don’t move like cardboard cutouts. Or like the girl from The Ring. This stage involves rigging.

After the motion animation comes Look Development, where we adjust the materials of the scene for the already completed 3D models. Next is rendering, which is the output of the file, and then compositing — the combination of several visual elements. This is where all the efforts are channeled to make the graphics indistinguishable from the real-world video surrounding it.

And, of course, the final touch is sound design. At our studio, we craft the sound for each piece ourselves. Our amazing sound designer polishes everything down to the faintest rustle, the creak of tires, or a chuckle off-screen. We often composes music too, if the project calls for it.

Such a detailed and methodical process is what ordinary 3D graphics entail. Our studio began with three people, and now we have over 20 specialists who can tackle these tasks quickly and with the utmost efficiency. Interested in working with us? Drop us a line at [email protected]

Picture this: you order a promo video to celebrate your company’s anniversary, and what you get is a Pixar film.

That’s the perfect snapshot of our experience working with the "Movement" real estate forum this year. Back in mid-April, they approached us with one clear directive: “We want to leave viewers glued to their seats; we want a ‘wow’ factor.” Our task was to create a video for the big screen. We crafted something similar for them last year, and this time, they wanted even more.

This video was set to open the entire event, showcasing that the forum had not only reached great heights but had shot right past the stratosphere. So naturally, we decided to venture into the cosmos too.

We drew inspiration from “The Fifth Element” — a nostalgic classic that would warm everyone’s hearts. To amplify this, we infused elements of Wall-E into our robot character design. Check out the post for sketches of the idea before it transitioned into 3D. The story of a little android’s journey took shape almost magically, hitting all the client's desires. Key among them was embodying light, the main element of the forum’s identity. Everywhere the android went, it was guided by a beam of light. Here’s an intriguing tidbit for the sharp-eyed viewers: the artifacts the robot collects symbolize the different developers participating in the forum. Each one brims with light too. Can you guess the overarching concept that ties these details together? Hint: it involves the number 5, representing the forum’s five-year milestone. Drop your guesses in the comments.

This project was a month-long affair. We clocked in 14-16 hours a day on calls, becoming closer than ever. During this time, the high-powered software Unreal Engine crashed 70 times, and Cinema 4D crashed 40 times. We rendered a total of 46 unique frames. Working on this animation was a novel and thrilling challenge. Nothing compares to the feeling we experienced seeing hundreds of viewers captivated by our creation onscreen. We crafted an animation that evoked the kind of childhood wonder you get from watching a beloved movie. People in the audience were recording it on their phones like they were attending a concert of their favorite band. That’s when we knew we wanted to keep creating animation magic.

If you sense that your brand is ready for its animated tale, slide into our DMs. Meanwhile, let’s chat about this amazing journey in the comments.

How Are Viral CG Videos Created?

If you've got an internet connection, you've probably stumbled upon hyper-realistic videos showcasing stunning visuals in iconic locations or trending topics. These visuals elicit a range of emotions and, of course, create quite a buzz around brands and events, racking up billions of views along the way.

We are Lagom CG, a studio that specializes in crafting viral videos using 3D graphics. This summer alone, we amassed around 100 million views. Today, we’re lifting the curtain to share how we tackle individual cases to capture the attention of audiences worldwide.

One of our recent highlights features none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. No, we aren’t on a first-name basis — his original video was simply cherry-picked from his Instagram account. You know, the one where he bagged a 20 million views and earned the shiny gold button? It was a fleeting yet thunderous news moment, and we thought, “Why not have a little fun with it?” After all, Ronaldo is a global icon with an enormous fanbase, and the event was already spawning memes. We had a sneaky hunch we could draw in a massive audience ourselves by making a memorable global meme.

The idea struck us in a heartbeat — literally two minutes. In the original clip, Ronaldo opens a box containing his gold button while his kids are bouncing around him. Clearly, something had to be done with that button via graphics. At first, we considered swapping it out for a photo of Messi holding a trophy, but then a brighter idea flickered! We decided to gift Ronaldo something he didn’t get this year, to delight his fans and annoy the haters. Spoiler: we got 17,000 comments, 400,000 shares, 840 likes, and nearly 30 million views later. Can you guess what we did?

🏆

Yep. The FIFA Ballon d'Or! We hustled through tracking, modeling, and compositing in less than a day. By the next morning, our Instagram feed was on fire with activity.

This is just one example of our creative projects, but our primary focus is on producing viral 3D content for clients. We excel at swiftly grasping the essence of concepts and creating successful campaigns. Fancy collaborating with us? Drop us a line at [email protected].

How We Merged CGI and Literature in Our Latest Project

Have you ever worked with publishing companies? And as a marketer? How about creating viral 3D trailers for a new book release? Yep, that’s a tall order, and for us, it was a completely new experience. Our client approached us with a captivating story about a mighty hero battling evil and searching for the elusive flower of happiness. They wanted a gripping 3D experience to draw attention to their enchanting tale.

After a brainstorming session, our team pitched three ideas. One of our favorites was "The Secret Room," where a little boy in a library opens a book, and suddenly everything transforms into a magical glade filled with fantastical characters. Cute and whimsical, right? But our client decided they wanted to give their audience a bit of a thrill instead, so we landed on the more intense concept: “The Dragon's Treasure.” Who didn’t love a good scare in childhood?

Now, picture this: you’re lounging on your couch, casually scrolling through Instagram, and suddenly you're met with a scene from your hometown, where a gigantic fire-breathing dragon lands on the rooftop, guarding an enormous book, while some brave soul takes aim with a bow and arrow. Or hey, don’t just imagine it — hit play on the video in this post to see it for yourself. We're all about turning the unreal into the real :)

It was exhilarating to step into the role of storytellers, bringing this narrative to life for our client and their audience. The creative process was refreshing, engaging, and downright enjoyable.

So, if you're looking to gift your brand a magical 3D tale, look no further — let's make some storytelling magic together. You can reach us at [email protected].

A charming tabby cat became a delivery superstar for a large chain of hypermarkets! That’s the purrfect blend of fluffy charm and marketing magic that we created for Lenta Online.

Last summer, they approached our 3D graphics studio with an exciting project: to create an advertisement that would showcase the speed and accessibility of their delivery service while highlighting their diverse selection. But here’s the kicker — we had to make it the fluffiest ad imaginable, featuring their beloved mascot, Uha the cat. I mean, who wouldn’t want a cat as a courier? According to our research, cats are 95% more likely to deliver good vibes than any ordinary human!

We gathered for a brainstorming session and came up with a buffet of ideas. Ultimately, we proposed the concept of Uha the cat strolling through the hypermarket, gathering items for delivery, and in the blink of an eye, he finds himself transported through a magical portal to the streets of the city. Along the way, he is assisted by quirky little courier helpers and colorful balloons. The entire scene is filled with a sense of joy, lightness, comfort, and sunshine that Lenta brings to its customers.

We whipped up storyboards — a mountain of them! From full CGI scenes to a blend of graphics with real-life footage, we had our work cut out for us. For the full CGI scenes, we created vibrant backgrounds from scratch, which involved designing countless animated objects and intricate details. Each one required meticulous modeling and texturing, but the real challenge was making Uha come to life. We didn’t just animate his paws and belly; we added a mischievous glint in his eyes — much like when your cat spots a laser beam…

Let’s just say that teaching Uha to strut his stuff was as heroic as transforming a cat into a courier. Watching him dash through a bustling metropolis, showcasing Lenta's speedy delivery, was an exhilarating experience. Yes, we may have shed a tear or two when we finally saw our fluffy hero on screen, delivering packages with the grace of a Broadway star.

So, if you think your brand could use a touch of magic and a sprinkle of fluffiness, reach out to us! You can email us at [email protected].

Let’s chat about this exciting journey in the comments below. After all, who wouldn’t want to discuss cat delivery adventures?

The story of Lagom CG began with a small comment under a local comedian's post on social media. That seemingly trivial comment sparked a meeting between our studio's founder and one of its earliest members— an encounter that neither could have predicted would lead to the creation of a rapidly growing studio.

Things really took off when three like-minded visionaries came together in one city, under one roof, to pioneer the creation of 3D animations. Fast forward three years, and our team has expanded to over 20 talented individuals. Of course, we can no longer fit under a single roof — we are now a global team, headquartered in Dubai.

Over this time, we've delivered more than 150 projects in Mixed Reality and Full CGI for an array of brands. Our team boasts experts in 3D modeling, character animation, simulation, and sound design—professionals dedicated to creating content of unparalleled quality.

Today, we don't just make commercials. Lagom CG is always on the hunt for original solutions that spotlight each brand's uniqueness and help it stand out. You can experience this firsthand by bringing your exciting projects to life with us.

Quality, speed, captivating ideas, and creativity are the bedrock of our work. Most importantly, we are constantly evolving, unafraid of and challenging tasks. We’re always looking far ahead — where the unreal becomes real.
