“It’s not about avoiding risk — it’s about walking through it.”

What if risk wasn’t the thing holding us back… but the way forward?

In this episode of Mama Earth Talk, I sit down with Jim Massey — best-selling author of Trust in Action and the soon-to-be-released Risk in Action.
Jim shares how trust, ethics, and small steps can create massive impact — in business, in leadership, and in life.

From helping AstraZeneca launch the first fully funded net-zero program, to rethinking how we approach risk and fear, Jim shows us how bold change starts small — and always starts with trust.

I was honestly not ready for today. A day where we wake up and one of my heroes, someone I admired so deeply, is no longer with us. Dr. Jane Goodall was a truly remarkable woman — a scientist, a trailblazer, and above all, a messenger of hope.

I had the honor of interviewing her and meeting her a few times. One moment I’ll never forget was watching her after a keynote, when people lined up for hours just to share how she had touched their lives. I heard stories of how she inspired them to work with animals, to fight for our planet, to protect our future. That was her gift: she awakened in people a belief that they could make a difference.

She also had such a lighthearted spirit. Dr. Jane often joked that Tarzan’s biggest mistake was marrying the wrong Jane, and the room would always erupt in laughter. She carried herself with charisma and warmth, yet also with an unshakable determination. Even when critics doubted her methods early on, she never gave up. She transformed the way we see animals, and in turn, the way we see ourselves.

Dr. Jane worked tirelessly — literally until her last day. Traveling over 300 days a year even into her 90s, she reminded us that every voice matters and every choice counts. She often said, “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.” And though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the millions she inspired.

We shared some small similarities — we were both born in April, we both loved Africa deeply, our favorite animal was the dog, and above all, we both carried hope for a better future.

It is with gratitude, more than sorrow, that I say farewell to Dr. Jane. Thank you, Dr. Jane, for your courage, your sacrifices, your humor, and your unwavering belief in humanity’s capacity for good. You showed us what it means to live a life of purpose.

There will never be another Dr. Jane. But I am so grateful she left us the greatest gift: hope. As she reminded us: “Together we can, together we will, together we must change the world.”

Rest easy, Dr. Jane. We will miss you. And we will carry forward your hope — because hope is what changes the world.

Yesterday was World Rivers Day — a reminder of how vital rivers are for all life on Mama Earth.

It made me think back to an incredible conversation I had with Maya van Rossum the voice of the Delaware River, on the Mama Earth Talk Podcast.

Maya said something that still stays with me:
“The river does speak to us. It just speaks in a different language… in healthy fish and abundant ecosystems, in fresh, clean water — or in floods, algal blooms, and dying fish. The question is not whether rivers speak, but whether we are willing to listen.”

This is such an important reminder that rivers — and all of nature — communicate with us every day. The problem is, too often, we aren’t listening.

If you haven’t heard this episode yet, I encourage you to give it a listen

Because when we give rivers a voice, we protect not just waterways, but all life that depends on them. 🌍💙

How do I manage without a bin? 👀

I give all the credit to this little drawer (and a few trusty reusable containers) that have become part of our everyday lifestyle.

This drawer is right by the front door and it’s a total lifesaver when it comes to refusing single-use — whether I’m grabbing a coffee, getting take-out, or stocking up on groceries. ☕🥗🥖

I keep it simple and organized (thanks for the inspo 🙌): only the items I actually use stay in here. After using something, I wash it, dry it, and return it — ready for the next time.

What’s in the drawer:
– 3 reusable coffee cups (me, hubby, and one for a friend)
– 2 “widdow socks” 🧦 (for produce or jars on the go)
– Reusable egg container 🥚
– Reusable shopping + produce bags (rolled & rubber-banded to keep neat)
– Bread bag 🍉 (love this watermelon one!)
– Beeswax wraps (salad, pasta, cheese — they do it all)
– 2 reusable sporks
– Reusable silicone wraps
– bags (can’t live without them)
– Fabric lid covers
– Water-soluble crayons (for writing on produce bags)

Having everything in one place makes it so much easier to say no to single-use, even on busy days.

💬 What are some of your go-to reusables you can’t live without?

🌱 P.S. I’m launching an online course next month to help you create your own zero-waste systems at home. Want to be first to know when it drops? Join the waitlist via the link in my bio 💻✨

What if I told you that one small choice could change the course of your entire life — and the planet’s?

Thinking back today to the podcast episode with   — author, vegan, and zero-waste chef who proves that every bite we take can be an act of sustainability. 💚

Max doesn’t waste a single scrap. He composts, picks up trash on his walks, and whips up vegan dishes so delicious they could be served at the world’s top restaurants. 🍕🥞🍝 He’s living proof that food can be both beautiful and good for Mama Earth.

In this episode, we explore:
🌱 The moment that sparked Max’s journey toward veganism.
♻️ What it really means to be a zero-waste chef.
🍴 His favorite go-to recipes (hello coconut blueberry pancakes!).
💡 Practical tips for starting your own journey to more sustainable meals.

✨ Key takeaway: “It only took one opportunity, two people, one opportunity to really make me consider my daily habits of consumption.”

Every little action matters. That reusable cup. That compost bin. That one meal swapped for plants. These aren’t small acts — they’re ripple effects that can inspire change far beyond what we see.

🎧 Listen back to the full episode and let Max inspire your next meal, your next choice, and your next step for Mama Earth.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to call out your whole life… and never be heard?

That question inspired the story behind this piece — dedicated to 52, also known as the Lonely Whale.

Most blue whales sing at frequencies of 15–25 Hz. But 52 sings at 52 Hz — far too high for other whales to hear. For decades, this whale has been calling into the ocean, yet no one answers back. A life spent in solitude. The loneliest whale in the world. 🌊💙

This artwork was created entirely from single-use plastic straws — one of the most damaging items for marine life. In the US alone, we use 500 million straws every single day. Most end up in landfills or in the ocean, harming the creatures that keep our seas alive.

Like 52, our oceans are crying out. It’s up to us to listen.
Let’s be the voice for those who cannot speak.
Let’s protect marine life.
And let’s say no to single-use plastics.

Fun fact about his video Do what you can't, has been given me my voice. It is the video I have been using for over 200 podcast episode, allowing me to check the sound and also bring some amazing vibes and being so grateful that through my voice I can help others.

The 5 R’s to Reduce Waste (and make sustainability simple!)

1️⃣ Refuse what you don’t need — like that free pen when you already have 100 at home.
2️⃣ Reduce what you do need — one pair of jeans instead of five on sale.
3️⃣ Reuse what you can — coffee cups, bottles, straws, bags.
4️⃣ Recycle what you can’t refuse, reduce, or reuse.
5️⃣ Rot (compost) food scraps + compostables back to the earth. 🌱

✨ Remember: Progress over perfection.
You don’t need to master all 5 R’s today. It’s a journey, not a race.

👉 Which of the 5 R’s do you practice most often? Drop it in the comments!

Progress over perfection starts here💚

It’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about the small, consistent swaps we make every day.

Bringing a reusable bag.
Refilling instead of rebuying.
Choosing better one step at a time.

These little choices might feel small in the moment, but together they create big impact.

Because sustainability isn’t about guilt — it’s about building habits that last.

What’s one small step you’ve taken recently that you feel proud of?

I am thrilled to return after a brief hiatus to release a new episode of the Mama Earth Talk podcast. In this episode, I delve deeper into the reasons behind the hiatus and discuss a crucial aspect of sustainability: resilient communities. During this episode, we explore the importance of community, especially in transient cities like Dubai. Reflecting on my recent experiences and studies, I examine the role of community in fostering resilience and support. Highlighting the inspiring work of past guest Shani Graham (Ecoburbia) and her TED Talks on building and sustaining community, I explore various ways to get involved, from Buy Nothing groups to community gardens.
