The past two days, our Head of Marketing, Lisette van Kessel, had the pleasure of attending Charleston In Between 2025 at the beautiful Wiley office in Berlin. The event opened with a warm welcome by Leah Hinds, Executive Director of the Charleston Conference, followed by thought-provoking insights from Meg White (Delta Think) and Holden Thorp, Editor-in-Chief of Science, on the importance of building public trust in science.

One important takeaway that came back in multiple discussions: collaboration is key. No single stakeholder—be it publishers, researchers, or libraries—can tackle the complex challenges of accessibility, research integrity, and sustainability alone. We must listen, engage, and work together to build a trusted, inclusive research ecosystem.

👏, Kudos to the panel on “Bridging the Gap: Honest Conversations Between Libraries and Publishers” for sparking meaningful dialogue about whether all parties can actually be aligned fundamentally and is this needed to collaborate? It's one of those moments where you had to be in the (online) room and showed once more why Charleston conferences are so valuable.
