I had a daughter with my college sweetheart back in 2015. At the time I did my best to hide her from my family but I didn’t succeed. This would later affect my education and life, my opportunities became limited especially when some certain family members we’re involved. Fast track to 2018, I had already adjusted to living with the consequences of my actions, my responsibilities and rejection by some family members , it was then that the fates and odds decided to favor me. I applied for a seminar/competition with one of my published novels and surprisingly my book won. So I was given an invitation for the annual conference of Black Writers on Tour, Los Angeles, CA, USA. So I sold everything I had, borrowed from friends and also bankrupted my business to process my visa, but it wasn’t enough. That was when I reached out to a family member who I believe had the capacity to cover me with proof of funds for the interview … the guy didn’t really like me, but to my surprise he agreed to help me out with it, but when it got to the agreed date the whole story changed and by then it was already too late and too sudden to seek out the amount I needed, so it was with one mind that I went for my visa interview at the embassy with less than 900 naira in my account. Of course I was denied the visa on account of that. I came back home, dejected, depressed and confused. I had nothing, I was indebted to the tune of almost a million naira , no business again, no job… nothing! So I went and withdrew the 900 in my account from a nearby pos, I bought w**d and sniper with the money, my plan was to kush up first, then afterwards go overboard with the aid of sniper… so I rolled up, smoked up and was lying on the bed getting ready to end it all when my mom who I had refused to speak to came in to give me my phone. She was crying when I refused to take the phone from her so she dropped it on the bed and left. It was ringing, my baby mama was calling, my daughter wanted to speak with me…
It was at that moment that I knew I had too much to live for.
Today I’ve paid off all my debt, I’ve travelled to many countries in the world, and my businesses are not doing bad either.
No matter what you are going through at this point in your life,
Stay strong champ!
Don’t ever give up because
Su***de is not an option.
