The zipline lasted about 30 seconds… the slide to the exit had me saying “WTF?” every five minutes. 😂

After ziplining, you can either walk down the stairs or pay extra for the slides. I paid because I thought it’d be quicker.

Big mistake. Every time I thought I’d reached the end… WTF, another slide? Then I’d get off, walk a bit, and there’d be another one.

Cue multiple “WTF… there’s ANOTHER one?!” moments. 😂

Still worth every yuan.

Day 3 was our reset day. After two full days of exploring Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and walking what felt like thousands and thousands of kilometres 😂, we did absolutely NOTHING. Stayed in the hotel, ordered food and gave our legs a much-needed break.

Then Day 4 we were back at it and headed to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon!

A lot of people get confused and think the Grand Canyon is inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, but it’s actually a completely separate attraction with its own entrance and ticket. So if you’re planning your Zhangjiajie itinerary, I would definitely give it its own day rather than trying to squeeze it into your National Forest Park days.

And obviously… if you’re going all the way to the Grand Canyon, you have to do the zipline. 😂 The kids went first, which meant I officially had no excuse.

Quick tip if you’re planning to do the zipline! You can buy your Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon entrance tickets at the entrance, then once you’re inside, you don’t have to decide on everything straight away. Each activity has its own ticket counter, so you can just buy tickets for whatever you feel like doing as you go.

For the zipline, the standard ticket is 50 yuan. We ended up paying 100 yuan for the VIP ticket because the queue for the regular line was so long, and honestly, we couldn’t be bothered waiting. 😂 If you’re visiting during peak season and don’t mind paying an extra 50 yuan, I’d definitely consider the VIP line

After Chengdu, we took the train to Zhangjiajie, home to the famous Avatar Mountains. It had been on our bucket list for years, and seeing those towering sandstone pillars in real life was even more incredible than we imagined. I’ll be sharing more from our time here, along with our itinerary and tips, in my next posts. Walked 30k + steps so you don’t have to! Ill share tips how to explore and enjoy the incredible place! ⛰️🇨🇳

🗼 Climb up to Yulei Pagoda (Yulei Pavilion) for incredible views of the mountains and water system
🌉 Walk across the Anlan Suspension Bridge
💙 Visit the famous Blue Tears in Dujiangyan
🚣‍♀️ Rent a boat at People’s Park and soak up the local atmosphere
🌆 Watch the Chengdu Twin Towers light show
On 🍲 Try an authentic Sichuan hot pot (if you can handle the spice! 🌶️)
🌶️ Taste authentic Sichuan cuisine, famous for its bold, spicy flavours

This was also where Peter flew back to Dubai for work, and my cousin joined us for the rest of our China adventure with the five kids.

Chengdu gave us pandas, incredible history, beautiful parks and some of the friendliest locals we met in China. Definitely one of our favourite stops. ❤️
