A Special Administrative Regions (SARs) of China, so they operate under significant Chinese influence, while Singapore is an independent country with a large ethnic Chinese population, and Malaysia is a separate country with a distinct Malay and Chinese ethnic majority, though both Singapore and Malaysia have historical and demographic ties to China but are not politically under its influence.
Autonomy:
They maintain their own governments, currencies, legal systems, and diplomatic relations except in defense and diplomacy, which are handled by the central Chinese government.
Historical Context:
Hong Kong was a British territory until 1997, and Macau was a Portuguese territory until 1999, with their sovereignty transferred to China under specific terms and declarations.

Independence:
