Looking back to a couple of months ago, when I had the pleasure of sharing my interview with Lisa Meissner of .maane.

Lisa’s work is so precise and beautifully constructed that you could easily assume it is machine knit... but every piece is made by hand. Her entire collection is stunning, and for KOEL she created the gorgeous Vector Pillow pattern you see here.

I have never once heard someone say they wish they hadn't picked up a needle, a hook, a spindle. Not even the people who tried it once and moved on. The skill stays with you either way.

Learning to make something changes how you see everything already made. You start noticing seams, tension, the hours behind an object. That awareness doesn't go away.

It's one of the few things that only adds to your life. Never takes away.

Valerie .studio started over with nothing but yarn and determination. Veerle leaves a trace of herself in every handmade thing. Andie stays curious and never stops. I could have kept going. Nothing says summer quite like knitting for winter. While it is far too hot in many parts of the world to even think about scarves, this one is already taking shape for colder days ahead.

Knitted with my own handspun yarn, the irregular little twists of color make every row slightly different. Exactly the kind of imperfection I love.

Spark & Spreadsheets is the NEW knitting story in the KOEL kiosk this week.

Julia Wilkens works from Amsterdam and beige, she will happily admit, is her comfort zone. What she does next is the interesting part ... apple green, apricot, citrus yellow dropped into all that quiet until the knitwear stops playing safe and becomes unmistakably hers. She talks about editing a palette down to the colors that actually survive the process, and about the unglamorous side of running a design practice, the planning and the spreadsheets that sit behind work that looks effortless.

The story comes with her Wavelet Scarf, a bold striped knit that will earn its keep as the days get colder.

I think it might be.

Before perfect tension, complicated stitches or knowing exactly what you are doing, there is patience. Patience to learn, to unravel, to start again and to accept that some things simply cannot be rushed.

Perhaps that is one of the nicest things craft teaches us.

A little reminiscence on a Sunday morning...

This weave will always be very special to me. I made this piece at home more than 10 years ago, experimenting with different yarns, textures and all those wonderful loops... and somewhere while working on it, the idea for KOEL Magazine came to me.

Funny to think how one creative morning can quietly turn into something much bigger....

There was a time I measured a good week by how much I finished. More projects, more output, more to show for the hours. I don't measure it that way anymore.

One piece made with care outlasts ten made in a hurry. The stitches hold better. The color choices feel considered instead of convenient. And honestly, I remember making it. The fast ones blur together.

Quality was never about talent. It's about refusing to rush.

→ Pass it on. That is literally what craft has always done.
