March cover featuring the man of the moment, Syrian actor is one of my favourite Esquire projects to date. It feels even more special that we got to shoot it in Beirut just a few days before everything unfolded.
When I sat down to write the story after the shoot, I opened with, “On a bright Beirut morning…” Little did I know how quickly that line would take on a different meaning. Today, as my Lebanon lives through its darkest days, it feels like a reflection of what Beirut has always been: a city where brighter days will always come, no matter the weight of what surrounds it: contradictory, complex, beautiful, resilient.
Continuing to share work doesn’t mean everything is fine. But in moments like these, storytelling and creative projects matter even more. They help us hold on to perspective and be louder than the noise of the missiles.

غلاف مجلة إسكوير لشهر مارس مع النجم معتصم النهار هو أحد أقرب الأغلفة إلى قلبي، خصوصًا أننا تمكّنا من تصويره في بيروت الحبيبة قبل أيام قليلة من اندلاع الأحداث.
عندما جلست لكتابة المقال بعد التصوير، استهللته بعبارة: «في صباحٍ مشرق في بيروت…». لم أكن أعلم حينها كيف يمكن لهذه الجملة أن تكتسب معنى مختلفًا بهذه السرعة. اليوم، بينما يعيش بلدي، لبنان، أيامًا صعبة، أشعر أن ذلك يعكس ما كانت عليه بيروت دائمًا: مدينة تعود وتشرق فيها الأيام الأجمل مهما ثقل ما يحيط بها: متناقضة، معقّدة، وصامدة.
