*📰Landlord on the Run After Hiring Men to Beat Tenant to Death Over Rent*

In Zengeza, a landlord is on the run after allegedly assaulting his tenant to death over unpaid rent. Crispen Marara is accused of murdering Tendai Nenguwo, who was 38 years old.

The incident began in January when Tendai collected $560 from all the tenants at Marara’s parents’ house on Hanga Street.

He reportedly kept the money for himself, which angered Marara. In response, Marara allegedly hired four men to beat Tendai with a broomstick and their fists.

Tendai was admitted to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where he passed away on Sunday, April 13.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, a police spokesperson, confirmed the investigation into the murder. He urged anyone with information to help locate Marara and his accomplices.

“The deceased was reported to have used the money of the accused person,” Chakanza stated.

Tendai’s sister, Yvette Masango, shared their family's grief. She said they plan to bury him in Chihota village.

“We lost a loving brother. After the assault, he often complained of chest pains,” she said.

“He didn’t want to report it to the police because he felt he was at fault. He was evicted from the house for unpaid rent and leaves behind two children, the oldest in Grade 7.”

*Police Hunt Deputy Headmaster Accused of Sodomising 35 Pupils at Masase High Schoo*l

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for a deputy headmaster accused of sodomising over 35 pupils at Masase High School in Mberengwa.

Police Hunt Deputy Headmaster Accused of Abusing Over 35 Pupils
The accused, Anywhere Gumbo, reportedly fled the school on Friday, 4 April, after police arrived to investigate the allegations. Gumbo, who worked at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Zimbabwe (ELCZ)-run school, is still on the run.

Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the spokesperson for the Midlands provincial police, confirmed that Gumbo has not been arrested yet. Sources say that Gumbo lured pupils to his office where he sexually abused them. The police, along with officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, visited the school after receiving an anonymous tip-off.

“The police and officials from the Ministry of Education have been on the ground after they received an anonymous letter from one of the teachers over the issue,” said a source.

Tight Reporting Policies Prevent Early Disclosure
According to reports, the abuse had been going on for some time but was not reported earlier due to the headmaster’s strict reporting policy.

“The school head has a very tight policy which requires pupils to talk to him if they want to report anything, and this has seen the majority of the pupils being sodomised in silence,” said a parent whose child is among the victims.

Accusations of Cover-Up and Headmaster’s Response
Some parents and teachers have also accused Mr. Albion Masukume of trying to cover up the abuse. In a letter to parents, Mr. Masukume confirmed that the allegations had been reported but denied any involvement.

“I write with sorrow to inform you that allegations of child abuse by one of our staff members were reported. Currently, thorough investigations by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the police are underway,” he said i

Bosso lose $265 000 to employee
by Staff reporter
22 Mar 2021 at 11:41hrs | Views

HIGHLANDERS FC lost $265 543 to their clubhouse manager Bonisani Mafela following a stock take and cash count conducted by the club's auditors PN and A Chartered Accountants.

Presenting the club's audited financial statement for the year ended December 31, 2020, Highlanders' treasurer Donald Ndebele said the club is in the process of recovering the missing funds, and Mafela is set to repay the club in six-months' time.

Ndebele said Mafela, who had been hired to supervise and turnaround the clubhouse's fortunes, signed an acknowledgement of debt and will in instalments of US$400.

"As at 31 December 2020, PN and A Chartered Accountants, (Ralph Bomment Greenaccre and Reynolds), conducted a stock count and a cash count at Highlanders Football Club. During the audit, it was noted that end of year cash count conducted independently by PN and A Chartered Accountants (Z) was understated by ZWL265 543 compared to the daily cash counts conducted by (the) manager.

"Management has since the year end cash count conducted an investigation, which resulted in the club house manager signing an acknowledgement of debt in admission of variance obtained and with guidance from the legal counsel management have opted to recover these funds. If management had carried out independent daily cash counts during the year the variance would have been detected earlier and the loss would have been averted," reads part of the financial statement.

Ndebele said according to the Highlanders' constitution, the vice-chairman of the club oversees the operations of the clubhouse.

Sihlalisiwe Mnkandla

HIGHLANDERS have been ordered to reinstate their suspended finance officer Sihlalisiwe Mnkandla with immediate effect following a Labour Court ruling.

Bosso lost its labour case against their suspended finance officer which has been dragging for close to a year.

Mnkandla, the long-serving finance officer, was suspended in November last year, accused of failing to provide financial documents requested by auditors and suspected fraud.

She was also accused of insubordination.

The suspension did not go down well with Mnkandla, who promptly hired a law firm, Calderwood, Bryce Hendrie and Partners, demanding to be reinstated.

When her demands were not met, she proceeded to take legal action against the club.

The matter is said to have initially not been entertained by the appointed Labour officer, but was later referred to another officer on November 24, who set the matter for a hearing on December 11.

At the hearing, Mnkandla, represented by her counsel, Shepherd Chamunorwa, and Highlanders, represented by Nqobani Sithole, presented their arguments.

The court ultimately ruled in favour of Mnkandla, ordering that her suspension be lifted, and she be reinstated to her original job with immediate effect.

Furthermore, the court ordered Highlanders FC to pay Mnkandla her full salary and benefits from the date of suspension to the date of lifting of the suspension on or before December 27, 2024.

The agreement was signed by Highlanders secretary, Morgen Gazza Dube, and Mnkandla, in the presence of their attorneys at the court.

Notwithstanding the court’s ruling, Highlanders FC is still free to pursue disciplinary action against Mrs Mnkandla, as stated in the letter of suspension dated November 28, 2023.

*📰Bail Set at $800 for Man Who Allegedly Stole $238,000*

In a plot twist straight out of a heist movie, High Court Judge Justice Regis Dembure has granted US$800 bail to Kelly Chinaka, a Zengeza 2 man accused of masterminding a robbery that netted a whopping US$238,000 from a local company last year.

Chinaka, represented by Moffat Makuvatsine, is facing charges of robbery. The State alleges that Chinaka, along with his partners in crime—Kennedy Mbundire, Owen Mutera, Tedious Desmond Munyaradzi Mhungira, and three others still on the run—pulled off the daring heist.

The gang reportedly stormed the company offices, held the guards hostage at gunpoint, and used a grinder to crack open the safes, making off with the cash. The loot was then divvied up among the crew.

Adding to the drama, the State has evidence of phone calls between Chinaka and his accomplices right after the crime. Despite the grand total of US$238,000 stolen, only US$6,500 has been recovered so far.

“And if there are any security companies who have requested the services of the police, there is nothing sinister or bad about that. As the police, we are available to beef up security whenever we are requested to do so,” said national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

FOLLOWING a surge in robbery cases nationwide, security companies are teaming up with the Zimbabwe Republic Police Support Unit to boost security for cash-in-transit deliveries and other operations.

The roles of the Support Unit include public order management, major disaster and hostage situation management, protection of key/vital installations and VIPs, border patrols, anti-stock theft and sub-aqua duties.

Last Thursday, The Herald witnessed heavily armed officers from the Support Unit conducting duties at a security company in Southerton, Harare.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the developments.

“We have always said those who want police services in terms of training and any other assistance, they can always approach the Commissioner-General of Police Godwin Matanga.

“And if there are any security companies who have requested the services of the police, there is nothing sinister or bad about that. As the police, we are available to beef up security whenever we are requested to do so,” he said.

At a Crime Liaison Committee (CLC) workshop that was held in Harare last Friday, police officers were urged to adapt and enhance their strategies in response to evolving threats from criminals.

The workshop brought together officers-in-charge in the city as well as CLC chairpersons from the province, district, and station levels.

The Officer Commanding Harare, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, Comm Nyathi and CLC chairperson for Harare Province, Dr Nathaniel Madzivanyika, also attended the workshop.

Man steals neighbour’s goat, chickens for relish
September 20, 2024
Mashudu Mambo

A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Insuza Village in Matabeleland North province stunned the court when he revealed that he stole his neighbours’ chickens and a goat to get some relish for his wife.

Sobala Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa facing two charges of stock theft. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was remanded in custody to Friday for sentencing. When asked by the magistrate about the reasons why he committed the offence, he indicated that he wanted some relish.

“I stole the goat and the two chickens because we did not have some relish at home,” he said. The court heard that in a period extending from 28 August to 15 September 2024, Sofia Maniwa left her four goats grazing in some pastures.
Moyo went on to steal one of the goats and Maniwa discovered that one of her goats was missing. Moyo proceeded to slaughter the goat and ate the meat.

On the second occasion, Moyo stole two chickens belonging to his neighbour Siphiwe Maphosa. He stole two chickens, a black and a white one and went away unnoticed.

Investigations were conducted and the matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest. The value of the livestock stolen was $62.

According to the victim statements, they indicated that they liaised with the culprit’s boss and he promised to refund them.
