📍 Critical Infrastructure Alert: Kabul–Nangarhar Highway at Risk

The main highway connecting Kabul to Nangarhar Province especially near the mountainous area of Mahipar Pass is facing a serious and ongoing threat.

Due to repeated landslides and unstable terrain, a portion of this vital road has already been destroyed. Although a temporary “smart” diversion road has been created, it remains unsafe and unreliable particularly during the rainy season. Every year, travelers and transport vehicles are put at risk.

🚧 This road is not just a route it is a lifeline for trade, travel, and daily life between central and eastern Afghanistan.

❗ Key Concern:
The scale of this challenge may be beyond the current capacity of local authorities alone. Without urgent and sustainable intervention, the risk will continue to grow.
