This picture carries a million words of intolerable grief 💔.

Here sits a man who, in the blink of an eye, lost everything, his five children, his wife, his mother, his uncle, and his brother’s children. In total, 17 members of his family are gone.

The earthquake didn’t just destroy his home, it shattered his entire world. The emptiness in his eyes and the silence in his posture speak louder than any cry ever could.

This is not merely rubble of stone and mud, it is the ruins of his life, his dreams, and his family. No words can console a pain this heavy, no aid can ever bring back what has been lost. All we can do is stand in solidarity, share his sorrow, and pray that Almighty grants him patience and gives eternal peace to the souls he mourns.

A powerful magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan late on August 31, flattening villages in Kunar and surrounding provinces. The tremor, followed by a 5.2 aftershock, left more than 1,400 people dead and over 3,000 injured, with the toll still rising as rescuers dig through rubble in remote mountain districts.

Survivors describe desperate scenes. “Children are under the rubble. The elderly are under the rubble,” one resident pleaded, as families clawed through debris with bare hands. Roads blocked by landslides and collapsed houses have left many communities cut off from emergency help.

The Taliban-led government has appealed for international aid, but relief efforts are hampered by political isolation, damaged infrastructure, and severe shortages of medical supplies. The United Nations and humanitarian groups have mobilized, rushing tents, food, and medical care, while countries including India, the UK, the UAE, and Pakistan have pledged support. Still, aid is arriving slowly, leaving thousands without shelter or treatment.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the disaster “a tragedy that demands solidarity,” urging donors to act swiftly. Humanitarian agencies warn that the quake has struck a country already weakened by drought, poverty, and mass displacement, threatening an even deeper crisis if the world does not respond.
