Kabul Press Club Calls for International Investigation into Attack on Journalists in Balkh Province.
Kabul, Afghanistan - March 11, 2023
The Kabul Press Club strongly condemns the heinous attack on journalists in Balkh province, which resulted in multiple casualties, and urges the United Nations and international human rights organizations to launch an investigation into the incident immediately.
This brazen attack on journalists in Mazar-e-Sharif is a crime against humanity and the Kabul Press Club administration firmly demands that the injured receive prompt medical attention. We reiterate our call for the Taliban to honor their commitment to press freedom and share timely and accurate information with journalists.
Moreover, we implore the Taliban to educate their militants on the rights of journalists, who serve as a critical link between the people and the government, conveying public information to the authorities. Therefore, journalists must be afforded the highest level of protection and respect.
According to our sources, 12 journalists were injured in the attack, with the condition of five individuals more serious than the others.
The Kabul Press Club stands in solidarity with the families of the victims and the media community in Afghanistan during this challenging time. We demand justice for the victims and call for an immediate end to the violence and intimidation against journalists in the country.
Sincerely,
Kabul Press Club Administration
