In the aftermath of devastating floods across Punjab, the government and armed forces of Pakistan have intensified their efforts to restore normalcy, with a particular focus on the revered Sikh shrine, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.
Under the special directives of the Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a comprehensive operation was launched at Kartarpur to remove floodwaters that had submerged the courtyards under twelve to fifteen feet of water. Rescue operations were initially carried out by boats to assist stranded individuals. Officials confirmed that the drainage process has now been completed, and teams from Punjab have been deployed to clean the shrine. Workers are removing mud and silt that had accumulated during the flood, with the goal of completing the full cleaning operation within three to four days so that the spiritual and cultural splendour of Darbar Sahib can be fully restored.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, visited the flood-affected areas of Punjab, including Sialkot Sector, Shakargarh, Narowal, and Kartarpur. During his visit, he was briefed on the prevailing situation, the ongoing relief efforts, and preparations for upcoming rains. He praised the troops and civil administration for their coordinated and tireless efforts in rescue and relief operations.
COAS also interacted with the affected Sikh community and assured them that all religious sites damaged during the floods, particularly Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, would be restored to their original condition on priority. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the state to safeguard minorities and their places of worship, reaffirming that Pakistan will fulfil this duty without compromise.
The Sikh community warmly welcomed the Army Chief, expressing gratitude for the assistance provided by the civil administration and the armed forces during the natural calamity.
