Obtuseness and fearmongering, not reality, accounted for some of the mistrust surrounding the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission’s handling of the January 18, 2023 elections, the organization summarized Tuesday.

From unsubstantiated reports of deceased electors to double registrations to an additional concern—that agents of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) brought individuals from the African continent to the country to vote—the tone on the allegations turned up more so than the proof.

Four opposition senators today took the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Secrecy on their way to being sworn in by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams.

Shawn Nicholas, the UPP General Secretary, was reappointed—this time as Minority Leader in the Senate. Johnathon Joseph, who was narrowly defeated by 49 votes in St. Mary’s North, was also reappointed to the Senate. General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union David Massiah, who has served in the Senate before, with his last term ending in 2014, makes a return. AG to recommend suspension of flights from Africa

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua (January 23, 2023) — Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin, under whose portfolio Immigration falls, confirmed to Dadli Media Pop Up that when the newly constituted Cabinet meets tomorrow, he will recommend the immediate cancellation of all dealings with the entities responsible for flights transporting Africans to Antigua and Barbuda. Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, acting on the advice of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, today swore in 11 members to the Upper House. The senators took the oaths of Office, Allegiance and Secrecy.

The ceremony at Government House also swore in, from amongst the senators, one Minister of State and three Parliamentary Secretaries.

Ministerial appointments unveiled

Members of Parliament of the governing Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) today took the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance, and the Oath of Secrecy as Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, on the advice of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, effected ministerial appointments during a ceremony at Government House.

Sir Rodney swore in Prime Minster Browne and Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin yesterday.

Noticeably absent from the ceremony was MP for St Philip North Sir Robin Yearwood, who, presumably, will be appointed Deputy Speaker.

The appointments are as follows:
