Anthony Smith Jr, the Member of Parliament for All Saints West, has dismissed Harold Lovell's return to the political limelight as the opposition caretaker for All Saints West as an opportunistic move by “someone with no genuine connection to the constituency”, describing the former United Progressive Party (UPP) leader's return as "a ticking time bomb" for the party. In a media statement first published on Monday, Smith Jr said that Lovell’s return to active politics for the UPP as a “politically convenient” move in a constituency “who knows who have been with us”.

The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has ruled that the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction to overturn a $25,000 exemplary damages award to a former Transport Board manager who was unfairly dismissed in 2014, in a judgment delivered yesterday. Anderson Carty, who was employed at the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board (ABTB) for eight years until October 2014, successfully challenged his dismissal through the courts after being terminated while on approved vacation leave.

Legendary West Indies batsman and former captain, Sir Vivian Richards, has warned that actions based on emotions will not solve the issues that have plagued West Indies cricket for years. Speaking publicly on the issue for the first time since the regional squad was bowled out for just 27 against Australia in July, the Antiguan called for patience and a level-headed approach to finding a permanent solution.

Former Minister of Education Dr Jacqui Quinn has categorically denied speculation that she is considering replacing Algernon "Serpent" Watts as the United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St George in the next general election. "I'm not running," Quinn told Observer media on Wednesday. "The main reason why I retired from politics was for health reasons. As a cancer survivor now 13 years in remission, it would be medically foolhardy for me to expose myself to the rigours and stressors of a political campaign."
