Basketball has been part of Antigua and Barbuda's sporting story for generations.
From the early community courts in Point and Villa, to the growth of organized basketball, national teams and regional competition, countless players and teams helped establish Antigua and Barbuda as a basketball nation across the Caribbean.
We recognize the players and pioneers who helped put Antigua and Barbuda on the basketball map, including Noel βNyahβ Roberts, Wayne βDocβ Harris, Carl βBowlieβ Knight, Richie Francis, Rowan βTekelβ Gomes and the teams that helped shape the early game, including Skillville and the **Wadadli Bulldogs.
The story also belongs to the women who represented Antigua and Barbuda and helped build the future of women's basketball.
One name that deserves special recognition is Gillian Brazier, who represented Antigua and Barbuda throughout the 1980s, including at the 1986 CARICOM Basketball Championship.
Her contribution to Antiguan basketball continues to be remembered through the Gillian Brazier Basketball Tournament, an event held in her honour that continues to provide a platform for female basketball players and keeps her name connected to the development of the sport.
We also recognize Dalia Clarke, Tyechia Lake and Kebra Nanton, along with the many players who continued carrying the national programme forward.
Today, another generation continues that legacy, including Cohen DeSouza, Kareem Edwards, Adonis Humphreys, T-Shawn Lewis and Daniel Perez.
To every player, coach, team, organizer and supporter who helped grow basketball in Antigua and Barbuda, this history belongs to you too.
Different generations. Different names. Same courts. Same national pride. π¦π¬π
