Leonard ‘Reginald’ Carty, affectionately known as Reggie, was born on November 2, 1951, to Norris and Jane Ann Carty. The 8th of 10 children, he grew up in a vibrant household where discipline, hard work, and a strong sense of community were instilled early.

Reggie attended the Valley Boy School but left at a young age to begin working first with Haskins and later with the British Royal Engineers during the Anguilla Revolution at “The Camp,” now known as the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre.

Cricket was always his true passion. From games outside his parents’ Cash & Carry to playing with Blue Carib and the Cavaliers, Reggie’s talent and love for the sport stood out. He proudly represented Anguilla’s Island Side Cricket Team for many years and later joined the Masters Cricket Team, traveling across the region as a proud ambassador for Anguilla.

Known for his fierce bowling and presence on the field, Reggie also played football and remained a true all-round athlete. His love for cricket evolved into coaching, where he mentored generations of young players. From Under-13 through Senior levels, he guided many of Anguilla’s finest, including Chesney Hughes, Lanvil Harrigan, Alex Adams, and Jahmar Hamilton.

Beyond sport, Reggie served in construction before becoming a maintenance officer at the Department of Education from 1995 until his retirement in 2016. He was respected for his positive energy, work ethic, and strong rapport with students, teachers, and parents.

Reggie often credited the wisdom of elders in his community for shaping his life. He carried their lessons with him in every phase as a sportsman, coach, and community pillar.

A cricketer, mentor, and role model Reggie’s legacy is one of dedication, humility, and heart.

Jerome Gumbs was born in South Valley, Anguilla to the late Maxwell and Alice Gumbs. He was the fifth of nine boys in a close-knit and hardworking family. His early education began in the 1960s at the Valley Boys’ School, where he laid the foundation for a life rooted in discipline, resilience, and community values.
As a child, Jerome developed a deep love for the land and sea. He spent much of his time fishing, farming, and raising livestock alongside his father. These early experiences not only shaped his work ethic but also instilled in him practical skills and a lifelong appreciation for self-sufficiency. To this day, Jerome continues to butcher his own livestock, both to feed his family and to support his local
community.
Jerome also had a strong passion for football during his youth, often spending his spare time engaged in the sport he loved.

Walk Abouts, let’s huddle in. 👋🏽Delays. Flight drama. Hair struggles. I wanted to quit before I even arrived. But a simple message reminded me: Find Your Rhythm. Find Your Tribe. Because my tribe carried me through.

I made it to Nevis late but My UWI friend picked me up. Our taxi driver Smooth! He became part of the Tribe real quick!
He thought he was just dropping me and my virtual bestie Kayana to the Mango Festival Food Tour… but ended up spending the whole day with us 🥭✨

Thanks to the uncurated nature of our experience, we beat the crowds, met the right people, and captured the real magic of the day stories, culture, and connection. Smooth even quizzed us on what we learned 😂

Later that night, in true Walk About fashion, Kayana and I were walking the streets trying to find the Culturama Soca Tent. Adventuring. Vibing. Then we heard, “Taxi?”... and then, “Ty”👀 It was Smooth again got us there and made sure we got home safe.

If you’re ever in Nevis, call Smooth: 📞 +1 (869) 663-8991

Even on the off days, the rhythm finds you. And so does your tribe. 💛

This post is for the little girl who grew up in Sugar Hill, South Valley or any other girl or boy from small places.
Last night reminded me why I keep walking this journey.
While casually chatting with a trusted advisor, an unexpected opportunity came up to meet and interview the soulful Mortimer. Just like that, I went from “yeah, I’m attending this event tonight” to Walk About TV is officially in the building.
As the time got closer, I started prepping but I’d be lying if I said the nerves didn’t hit me. I work constantly on self-development, and usually I have more time to mentally prepare before big moments like this.
Still, I knew I couldn’t show up to interview Mortimer for my series Find Your Rhythm with just my iPhone and gimbal. So, I called Bonnie my go-to creative partner from Moonsplash and beyond and thankfully she was available. That alone helped ease some of the pressure.
But the nerves still tried me, so I got back on the phone with my same trusted advisor just to talk, breathe, and settle into the moment.
And I’m so glad I did because that interview turned into a two-for-one special! Mortimer’s incredible manager, Claire, asked if we could also include DJ Rich Roc, who had come to play with him. Their energy, chemistry, and insight made the conversation even richer. They dropped gems real talk and I can’t wait to release this new episode of Find Your Rhythm.
Moral of the story?Keep dreaming. Trust God’s plan. And never forget:Networking isn’t about who you know or who knows you it’s about building meaningful relationships that last.
