CARTA ABERTA AOS CANDIDATOS AFETOS À IGREJA ADVENTISTA DO SÉTIMO DIA QUE ABANDONARAM O EXAME DE ACESSO À FUNÇÃO PÚBLICA DO REGIME GERAL NO HUAMBO EM OBEDIÊNCIA À SANTIDADE DO SÁBADO.
PREZADOS IRMÃOS E CONCIDADÃOS:
Escrevo esta carta para honrar a vossa coragem. No passado dia de exame, os vossos passos não recuaram por fraqueza. Eles pararam por fidelidade. Ao escolherem guardar o sábado, vós mostrastes ao país o valor de uma convicção. A vossa decisão ecoa com força e merece um amparo profundo, tanto nas leis dos homens como na palavra de Deus.
O FUNDAMENTO JURÍDICO - LIBERDADE DE CONSCIÊNCIA E RELIGIÃO:
A vossa ausência na sala de exame não foi uma falta civil. Foi o exercício de um direito sagrado que a lei de Angola protege.
1- A Constituição da República de Angola (CRA):
O Artigo 41.º diz expressamente que a liberdade de consciência, de religião e de culto é inviolável. Ninguém pode ser privado dos seus direitos por motivos religiosos.
2- O Direito ao Trabalho:
O Artigo 76.º da CRA garante a todos o direito ao trabalho. Ao marcar exames públicos num sábado, o Estado cria uma barreira invisível. Essa barreira impede os cidadãos sabatistas de acederem à função pública em igualdade de condições.
3- A Lei da Liberdade de Consciência, Culto e Religião:
A lei angolana exige o respeito pelos dias de guarda das confissões religiosas reconhecidas. O Estado deve ser o primeiro a promover a inclusão, adaptando os concursos para que nenhum fiel tenha de escolher entre a sua subsistência e a sua fé.
O FUNDAMENTO BÍBLICO - A OBEDIÊNCIA SUPREMA A DEUS:
Do ponto de vista da fé, a vossa escolha encontra conforto e ordem nas Escrituras Sagradas. Vós fostes confrontados com o mesmo dilema dos apóstolos e dos profetas do passado.
1- A Primazia da Lei Divina:
Em Atos 5:29, a Bíblia ensina de forma clara: "Mais importa obedecer a Deus do que aos homens". Quando as regras do mundo chocam com os mandamentos do Alto, o cristão escolhe a fidelidade eterna.
2- A Santidade do Sábado:
O quarto mandamento da Lei de Deus, em Êxodo 20:8-11, ordena: "Lembra-te do dia do sábado, para o santificar". É um tempo reservado para o Criador, não para negócios, exames ou interesses terrenos.
3- A Promessa da Provisão:
Em Isaías 58:13-14, Deus promete abençoar ricamente aqueles que desviam o pé de fazer a sua própria vontade no Seu santo dia. O emprego que perde hoje não é maior do que o sustento que Deus tem preparado para o vosso futuro. "Nada temos a temer quanto ao futuro, a menos que nos esqueçamos como Deus tem nos conduzido no passado.” - Ellen G. White.
PALAVRAS DE ENCORAJAMENTO E APELO:
Não olhem para trás com arrependimento. O vosso sacrifício no Huambo acende um debate necessário sobre a verdadeira laicidade do Estado e a tolerância religiosa na nossa sociedade. Vós não perdestes uma oportunidade; vós guardastes a vossa coroa de integridade.
Que as igrejas, os juristas e os defensores dos direitos humanos se unam agora para dialogar com o governo provincial e os ministérios competentes. É urgente que os próximos concursos públicos prevejam datas alternativas ou horários especiais para os candidatos sabatistas, tal como já acontece noutros países democráticos.
Permaneçam firmes na fé, pois Aquele que prometeu é fiel para cumprir.

OPEN LETTER TO CANDIDATES AFFILIATED WITH THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH WHO WITHDREW FROM THE GENERAL REGIME PUBLIC SERVICE ENTRANCE EXAM IN HUAMBO IN OBEDIENCE TO THE SANCTITY OF THE SABBATH.
DEAR BROTHERS AND FELLOW CITIZENS:
I write this letter to honor your courage. On the day of the exam, your steps did not retreat out of weakness. They stopped out of faithfulness. By choosing to keep the Sabbath, you showed the country the value of a conviction. Your decision echoes with strength and deserves deep support, both in the laws of men and in the word of God.
THE LEGAL BASIS - FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE AND RELIGION:
Your absence from the exam room was not a civil fault. It was the exercise of a sacred right that the law of Angola protects.
1- The Constitution of the Republic of Angola (CRA):
Article 41 expressly states that freedom of conscience, religion, and worship is inviolable. No one can be deprived of their rights for religious reasons.
2- The Right to Work:
Article 76 of the CRA guarantees everyone the right to work. By scheduling public exams on a Saturday, the State creates an invisible barrier. This barrier prevents Sabbath-keeping citizens from accessing the civil service under equal conditions.
3- The Law on Freedom of Conscience, Worship, and Religion:
Angolan law requires respect for the days of worship of recognized religious denominations. The State must be the first to promote inclusion, adapting public contests so that no believer has to choose between their livelihood and their faith.
THE BIBLICAL BASIS - SUPREME OBEDIENCE TO GOD:
From the perspective of faith, your choice finds comfort and order in the Holy Scriptures. You were faced with the same dilemma as the apostles and prophets of the past.
1- The Primacy of Divine Law:
In Acts 5:29, the Bible clearly teaches: "We must obey God rather than human beings." When the rules of the world clash with the commandments from Above, the Christian chooses eternal faithfulness.
2- The Holiness of the Sabbath:
The fourth commandment of God's Law, in Exodus 20:8-11, commands: "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy." It is a time set aside for the Creator, not for business, exams, or earthly interests.
3- The Promise of Provision:
In Isaiah 58:13-14, God promises to richly bless those who keep their feet from doing their own pleasure on His holy day. The job you lose today is not greater than the sustenance God has prepared for your future. "We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history." — Ellen G.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND APPEAL:
Do not look back with regret. Your sacrifice in Huambo ignites a necessary debate about the true secularism of the State and religious tolerance in our society. You did not lose an opportunity; you kept your crown of integrity.
May the churches, jurists, and human rights defenders now unite to dialogue with the provincial government and the competent ministries. It is urgent that future public contests provide alternative dates or special schedules for Sabbath-keeping candidates, just as already happens in other democratic countries.
