Antarctica definitely has its challenges. You have to cross the Drake Passage, the weather can change quickly, plans are never guaranteed, and getting there takes a LOT more planning than your average vacation.

But then you get there... and suddenly you’re cruising past icebergs, watching penguins waddle around, taking Zodiacs through the ice and standing on the actual Antarctic continent.

Yeah. Turns out it IS pretty much sunshine and rainbows. 😂🐧🧊

We have limited time in each destination, and we want to use as much of it as possible. So yes, we’re booking the walking tour after an overnight flight, changing clothes in an airport bathroom, handing our luggage over to a storage locker, and setting a 3 a.m. alarm if it means more time somewhere new.

Is it relaxing? Absolutely not.

But we’ve never wanted our trips to be relaxing. We want to come home thinking, “I can’t believe we did all of that.”

That was one of our favorite parts of expedition cruising in Antarctica. You never know when whales, seals, penguins, or something else will show up, so the best moments are usually the ones you could never schedule.
