Antarctica travel diary. The journey begins.

Today we boarded our expedition ship and officially started our Antarctica voyage. From checking into our cabin to getting fitted for our expedition parka, this was the moment it all started to feel real.

This is what it actually looks like to begin an Antarctica expedition. The logistics, the ship, the preparation, and the quiet realization that you are about to sail to one of the most remote places on Earth.

We’re sharing what it’s really like to travel to Antarctica, from ship life to expedition days, wildlife encounters, and everything in between.

Day 1 of our Antarctica expedition and honestly… this is where it already felt unreal.

Our trip started with a hotel included in our package, an early morning airport transfer, and a charter flight waiting just for our group. We landed, were picked up, brought straight to the ship, checked in, handed a glass of champagne, and shown to our room like this was the most normal thing in the world.

Then came trying on our expedition parkas and realizing oh wow… this is actually happening.

This is what expedition travel to Antarctica really looks like behind the scenes and we’re just getting started.

Follow along because if you think that’s all that happens on day 1… stay tuned! 🌊

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s actually like to sail to Antarctica, this series is for you.

Over nine days we crossed the Drake Passage, explored the Antarctic Peninsula, and experienced what expedition travel to the White Continent really looks like. From life on the ship to daily landings, zodiac cruises, wildlife encounters, and everything in between, we’re breaking it all down exactly as it happened.

This is not a highlight reel of just ice and penguins. It’s the full Antarctica expedition experience, what surprised us, what was harder than expected, and why this trip is unlike anywhere else in the world.

Follow as we share our Antarctica sailing journey, real expedition days, wildlife encounters, and what it’s actually like to travel to one of the most remote places on Earth.

📍 Belgium

This trip was all about celebrating Drew turning 40 the right way by drinking Belgian beer in Belgium. We vistied Brussels, Ghent, and Bruges, hopping between historic streets, fairy tale canals, and some of the best beer bars and breweries in the world.

From castle views and medieval town squares to tasting Trappist-style beers and local favorites you cannot even find back home, this trip was equal parts culture, carbs, and cold pints. It is the kind of country where you wander into a random bar and accidentally have the best beer of your life.

📍 Zermatt, Switzerland

We first came here in 2021 thinking we remembered how to ski. We absolutely did not. Ever since that trip, we were determined to get better just so we could come back and actually enjoy the trails the way this place deserves. And this year, we finally did it.

Skiing under the Matterhorn, hitting the best après ski stops, wandering through the cutest alpine town, and ending every day staring at that mountain never got old. It truly feels unreal every single time you see it.

Zermatt is one of those places that completely raises the bar for winter travel, and we already cannot wait to go back again.

📍 Sedona, Arizona

Iconic red rock hikes, endless dog friendly trails and patios, and some of the best sunsets we have ever seen. Sedona is one of the very few places we have traveled to where we looked at each other and said yeah… we could actually live here.

We spent our days hiking the famous trails, letting the dogs soak up all the views with us, and ending every night watching the sky light up over the red rocks. It is one of those places that really does live up to the hype.

📍Complete a 14er - Mount Bierstadt, Colorado

This year we finally checked off something that’s been on our bucket list for a long time. We completed our first 14er. We tried a few years ago with the dogs in backpacks and somehow made it way farther than logic would suggest, but this year it was just us and the mountain.

We spent all spring hiking plus the weekend leading up to it getting acclimated, and in July we made it to the summit of Mount Bierstadt. Hard climb, big views, and one of those moments that makes you stop and think, yeah, we really just did that.

There’s something pretty cool about being able to say you’ve completed a 14er, and this one will always be a favorite for us.

📍 Colorado Fall Colors

This one was all about chasing peak fall colors through the Rockies with our dogs. We based ourselves in Breckenridge and Frisco, made a stop in Leadville, and rode the dog friendly Leadville Colorado and Southern Railroad which might be one of the most underrated fall experiences out there.

We hiked some of the most iconic Colorado fall foliage trails, but our favorites ended up being the Old Dillon Reservoir Trail for easy lake views and Aspen Alley for that unreal golden tree tunnel moment. Peak foliage, crisp mountain air, and dogs living their absolute best life the entire time.

If Colorado in the fall is not on your bucket list yet, consider this your sign.

📍 Monument Valley

We finally checked off one of the most iconic landscapes in the US and it completely lived up to the hype. We slept in a teepee with the dogs, ran down Forrest Gump Road like absolute tourists, and hiked the Wildcat Trail for views that honestly do not feel real.

This place feels so remote and untouched in the best way. The kind of quiet where the land does all the talking and you just stand there in disbelief. It is one of those places that photos still do not fully capture.

If wide open space, insane rock formations, and true bucket list scenery are your thing, Monument Valley deserves a spot on your list.
