This year's lecturers include conductor Maestra Amy Andersson, composer and orchestrator Conrad Pope, Grammy-award-winning arranger Nan Schwartz, film composer Anne-Kathrin Dern and Television Series composer John Lunn. This is a ONE-OF-A-KIND OPPORTUNITY to work and study with some of Hollywood’s top composers, orchestrators, and arrangers. Our goal is to foster the tal

ent of young film composers by providing a stimulating, enthusiastic, and enriching experience for each student to enhance his or her personal career. There will be numerous opportunities to expand one's personal knowledge through examples of practical application. Starting from composing, orchestration and arrangement to recording with a real orchestra …all this and more is offered at this year's Hollywood Music Workshop in beautiful Baden, just outside Vienna.

Congratulations to our "Dean" Conrad Pope for being the recipient of the SISF Zubir Said Lifetime Achievement Award and an honored guest of the Singapore International Soundtrack Festival.

SISF proudly presents Conrad Pope as a recipient of the SISF Zubir Said Lifetime Achievement Award and as an honored guest of the festival.

A master orchestrator behind some of cinema’s most iconic worlds — Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, Jurassic Park and more — Conrad Pope has spent decades creating movie magic, shaping the emotional architecture of modern film music.

Through collaborations with John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard and Howard Shore, Conrad has helped define the orchestral voice of contemporary cinema. His ability to transform musical ideas into powerful emotional landscapes continues to inspire composers around the world.

Most recently, Conrad collaborated with Alexandre Desplat on the orchestration of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, continuing his legacy of working with visionary storytellers at the highest level of the industry.

Our Executive Director Michiel de Boer has been invited to perform at the prestigious World Music Contest in Kerkrade.

He will participate in the show competitions with the M.E.T.R.O. Scheveningen Show and Marching Band and competing in a international field representing of 31 nationalities from 5 continents.
He also has been asked by the band to arrange and orchestrate the new show for this competition. When we asked him what the new show will be about, he said "it will be a suprise, but rest assured the influence of HMW knowledge and acces to Hollywood will be present, mixed with todays music."

We wish him and the orchestra the best of luck in their preparations.

What an incredible experience at the Hollywood Music Workshop! From July 14-19, participants immersed themselves in the art of composition,for games, and the exhilarating experience of recording live with a stunning orchestra at the legendary Vienna Synchron Stage. Under the expert guidance of the talented composer Austin Wintory, they brought eleven inspiring compositions to life! Each session was a true masterclass in creativity and collaboration, leaving everyone feeling inspired and enriched! 🎺🎻

Our Story

HOLLYWOOD MUSIC WORKSHOP 2020 from July 13 - August 7, 2020

Over the past eleven years Hollywood Music Workshop has welcomed students from all over the globe, learning from top composers, arrangers and sound engineers in the beautiful City of Baden, just outside of Vienna. Many of those students have furthered their careers and gone out into the composing world, scoring for Film & TV. In addition, they made lasting friendships with mentors and other students.

“We are happy to welcome an illustrious group of mentors, consisting of successful Hollywood composers, orchestrators and engineers. Over the past years we have seen so many of our former students succeed in the industry, working on exciting projects. In addition, friendships have been built and a supportive peer network was established” say HMW directors Dimitrie Leivici and co-director Lilo Bellotto.

The 2020 Hollywood Music Workshop (HMW) will take place from July 13 through August 7 and includes 3, 4, 5 and 6 day masterclasses. After last year’s success HMW is happy to welcome back 2-time Emmy winner John Lunn (“Downton Abbey”) with SCORING FOR TELEVISION.

HMW is proud to welcome for the second time renowned Hollywood composer and lecturer at USC LA Garry Schyman, who teaches COMPOSING FOR VIDEO GAMES. Award-winning composer Joe Kraemer (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) will be back in Baden with his class NAVIGATING THE TRIANGLE and Conrad Pope & Nan Schwartz will once again teach their popular class ORCHESTRATION AND ARRANGING. To round up the summer scoring academy, composers have the opportunity to RECORD THEIR COMPOSITIONS with a 50-piece orchestra - for the first time at the famous MUSIKVEREIN VIENNA. This amazing historic location will provide our participants with the best acoustic properties available, resulting in superior sound for each composer’s recording project. Joe Kraemer alongside Conrad Pope will guide participants through the recording process and will make sure that the compositions will be recorded professionally. Concert master and Hollywood Music Worskhop Director Dimitrie Leivici will lead the 50-piece orchestra and provide additional coaching. Scoring mixer and film composer Frankie Chinasky will be the lead recording engineer, leveraging the world class equipment of the sound stage and the control room.
