🌊 Offshore wind meets rugged lighting: Glamox has won the contract for marine lighting on Formosa 4, one of Taiwan's largest offshore wind farms.

Over 900 specialised marine lights will cover the transition pieces of 35 wind turbines — boat landing areas, guardrails, ladders, and access doors. Built to withstand temperatures above 45°C, humidity, and seawater corrosion.

Once complete, the wind farm is expected to generate around 495 MW of green electricity — enough to power roughly 500,000 households.

Another milestone for Taiwan's offshore wind industry, following Formosa 1 and 2. 💡

Automotive lighting is getting more sophisticated by the year — dynamic ambient interiors, adaptive matrix headlights with up to 100,000 individually addressable micro-LEDs, animated light strips that double as driver interfaces, and high-density exterior modules for branding. That complexity is putting real pressure on manufacturing quality testing.

SPEA's new T100L Automatic LED Light Tester tackles it with a fiberless approach: a 448-band hyperspectral imaging system (400–1,000 nm range) paired with a Flying Scanner running up to 200 mm/s. It captures absolute optical measurements alongside electrical checks, without the need for costly, dedicated optical fixtures — meaning faster cycle times and more design flexibility for manufacturers.

Can a luminaire calm a patient before an MRI scan?

Nightingale® (part of the Acuity Brands portfolio) just adapted its Observe™ cloud luminaire specifically for MRI suites — and the engineering challenge is as interesting as the biophilic design itself.

The fixture uses advanced LED-level imagery to create strikingly realistic sky visuals that ease patient anxiety during scans, then transitions to uniform white light for caregiver observation and post-scan tasks. To survive inside an MRI environment, it's built with non-ferrous materials to avoid magnetic interference, EMI/RFI filters, remotely installed drivers outside the shielded room, and low-noise DC power. NSF2-listed, smooth non-porous surfaces keep it clean-room ready, and a modular 2x2/2x4 ft design lets cloud formations align seamlessly across larger ceiling layouts.

A great example of biophilic lighting design solving a genuinely technical problem, not just a decorative one.

Leadership change at Zumtobel Group
The Supervisory Board of Zumtobel Group AG has appointed Dr. Heiner Lang as the company’s new CEO.

Lang will join the Executive Board on 1 September 2026 and take over as CEO from Dr. Alfred Felder on 1 October. With more than 25 years of international leadership experience, including his most recent role as CEO of WAGO Group and previous leadership experience at Bosch Rexroth, he brings deep expertise in technology-driven businesses and industrial transformation.
His appointment comes at an important moment for the lighting industry. As adaptive, intelligent and connected lighting systems transform the role of light in smart spaces, the opportunities extend well beyond traditional illumination.
A new chapter for Zumtobel Group — and an interesting development for the entire lighting industry.
