Fixed the left pedal on my piano… and I love what it does to the sound!

Die meisten Produktionen brauchen mehr als einen Tag.

Sie brauchen Zeit – für Gespräche nach der Session, für ein gemeinsames Abendessen, bei dem plötzlich die Lösung für den Refrain auftaucht, nach der man den ganzen Nachmittag gesucht hat. Dafür, eine gemeinsame Vision wachsen zu lassen.

Genau dafür gibt es seit ein paar Monaten die Schall und Wahn „Suite“. ✨

Keine Heimfahrt nach einem langen Recording-Tag. Kein abrupter Wechsel zwischen Studio und Alltag. Dadurch entsteht der Raum, um für ein paar Tage alles andere auszublenden und sich im eigenen Flow ganz auf die Songs zu fokussieren.

Denn die guten Ideen entstehen oft nicht während der Aufnahme, sondern in den Stunden dazwischen. 🧡

I rarely push drums this far when mixing nowadays, especially for more delicate songs i reach for a more natural sound. But I grew up listening to records where the drums really hit - tons of punch, attack and energy.

Back then, I was always struggling to actually achieve that sound in a mix. Today making drums slam without completely destroying the dynamics is still a fun challenge. The most difficult part is keeping all that punch once the mix hits the limiter in mastering.

I rarely talk about gear anymore.

And yes — quality matters.
A great mic can elevate a performance in a way plugins just can’t. It can add depth, warmth, or character, especially to more intimate, acoustic songs.

But it’s just one piece of a complex puzzle. The room, the performance, how the mic fits your voice or instrument — but most importantly, what sound you are going for.

In the end, it’s always about decisions, taste, and experience. And about getting great results much quicker and better than endlessly experimenting, throwing away takes and getting frustrated.

Es ist jedes Mal wieder inspirierend, die Workflows anderer Produzenten im Studio zu sehen – und vor allem die Ergebnisse zu hören. Gleiches Equipment, gleicher Raum – und trotzdem hört man immer ganz klar eine Handschrift. Gleichzeitig tauchen vertraute Sounds plötzlich in einem komplett neuen Kontext auf.

Schall & Wahn Studios 2026 – Living Room.

Making a record can get intense. What helps is a space to get away from the speakers, have a coffee, or just sit by the fire, to clear your head and come back with a fresh perspective.

Just as important after a long day of recording is to cook some food or order pizza, maybe drink some beers, while talking about life, music and influences. Hanging out, listening to records, getting to know each other.

Because sharing a common vision is the foundation for turning a bunch of songs into a great record.

You notice the difference immediately when entering — the clarity, how easy it is to hear details.
The acoustics make decisions easier, listening more natural and the whole process effortless.

I’ve learned to appreciate this space more and more for recording es well, especially for intimate vocals and delicate guitar parts.
