"I'm a wide, chaotic reader who has bookmarks in too many things right now. Many readers might be surprised to learn that I’m a big sci-fi and dystopian literature fan, but I read a lot of literary fiction too. I love George Saunders, Colson Whitehead, Ben Lerner, and Alejandro Zambra to name a few favorites. I’m currently reading Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach series for leisure, and for craft I’m reading Robert Pinsky’s translation of The Inferno of Dante out of a strong urge to reconnect with some of the more formal conventions of poetry which I’ve lost touch with."
"Robert Pinsky wrote in The Sounds of Poetry that 'in poetry, the medium is the audience’s body.' I love a poem that is rich in small, deliberate choices which enact a sonic, sensory experience. I’ve recently started borrowing an anecdote I love from a lecture on hip-hop by DJ Rob Swift in which he said, 'hip-hop is what you do to music.' Likewise, poetry is what you do to (and with) language."
