“When I discovered Hope on the street, I was shocked. A small child who looked like a baby, completely malnourished, dehydrated and left to die. I kneeled down to him and gave him water and cookies. That was the moment when the documentary film team captured me. He smelled like he was already dead. He weighed nothing. I wrapped him in a blanket and walked him to the car. The people standing there didn’t want to let us take him with us at first. They said he was a witch’s child and there was a curse on him. But we succeeded. I didn’t think he would survive. In the car, I looked at my husband David and said: ‘He needs a name, at least that’s what should be on his gravestone.’ I named him Hope.”

This is how Anja RInggren Lovén remembers the moment when she found a little boy in a small village in Nigeria in 2016. There were worms all over his body, he had malaria, typhoid and cholera. But doctors were able to save his life in a clinic. The picture of Anja finding Hope on the street went around the world. As a result, we chose her as the most inspiring person of the year in 2017 - ahead of Obama and the Pope. A story that went around the world, from CNN to the Independent: “This award helped me a lot and brought me a lot of attention and ultimately donations for Land Of Hope. I could even meet the Dalai Lama. So far, seven documentaries have been made about my work.” In 2017, the last sentence we wrote in our story was: “If hope has a name, it’s Anja Ringgren Lovén.” There is nothing to be added today.

Heute ist ein ganz besonderer Tag - und du kannst mithelfen, ihn für einen Menschen unvergesslich zu machen: Zwei Millionen Kinobesucher hat die wahre Geschichte von Lars Amends Bestseller „Dieses bescheuerte Herz“ berührt, in dem einem todkranken Jungen, der nur ein halbes Herz hat, seine Herzenswünsche erfüllt. Den Jungen gibt es wirklich: Daniel Meyer war 15, als ihn Lars Amend 2012 in einem Kinderhospiz besuchte. Die Ärzte wussten damals nicht, ob er den nächsten Geburtstag erleben wird. Die beiden erstellten gemeinsam eine Bucket List, und als alle Punkte abgehakt waren sagte Daniel zu Lars: „Aber ich will jetzt noch nicht sterben!“ Und Lars antwortete: „Ja, dann mach’s einfach nicht!“ Als der Film 2017 in die Kinos kam war Daniel bereits 20 Jahre alt. Er lebte - entgegen allen Prognosen. Heute feiert Daniel Meyer seinen 28. Geburtstag! Lieber Daniel, wir alle gratulieren dir sehr herzlich und wünschen dir, dass noch sehr, sehr viele Geburtstage folgen werden und alle deine Wünsche in Erfüllung gehen. The ninth annual “CALL 100: The World’s Most Inspiring People” list, compiled by an international jury and CALL Magazine’s editorial team, presents: Jane Goodall at #5. The British zoologist, primatologist and anthropologist Jane Goodall studied the lives of chimpanzees and learned a great deal about humans in the process. In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute, which now has 31 offices worldwide and is committed to sustainable, holistic animal protection and development programs in Africa, as well as operating sanctuaries for orphaned and confiscated chimpanzees. In her youth program Roots & Shoots, 150,000 children and young people in over 100 countries have been motivated to develop projects for people, animals or nature. Much of what we know about wild chimpanzees comes from Jane Goodall’s pioneering and exceptional work. In the Great Ape Project, Goodall also advocates certain rights for the great apes that are similar to human rights. A pioneer of animal and environmental protection and a role model for all of us.
