instagram: The summer of 2021 will see the 28th anniversary of the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach.

Every year, more than 400 young artists from all over the world come to the beautiful resort town of Pörtschach, Austria to compete in the International Johannes Brahms Competition. The reputation of our piano und chamber music competitions is built on the high standard of musicians - pianists; violin, viola and cello players; chamber musicians and singers - we attract.

12 regular prizes, 5 special prizes and the audience's prize were awarded at yesterday's gala concert at the Casineum in Velden. Congratulations to Stefan Aprodu (Romania) for winning the latter!

We would like to thank all participants for their efforts and moving performances, as well as for the friendly atmosphere among the participants.

Yesterday's viola and violin finals featured a variety of pieces from different composers, namely Hoffmeister, Brahms and Martinů.

Yesterday's competition party featured an impressive storm on the lake, while we enjoyed delicious Indian curries and Carinthian specialities.

Tension is also mounting among our viola players and violinists, who will be competing for victory tonight at 6pm in the Congress Center in Pörtschach. Maestro Ernest Hoetzl will conduct the inspiring and young Euro Symphony SFK !

Tomorrow the finals for piano with orchestra and chamber music also start at 6pm at the same location, all the best to all of our finalists!

At the eastside of lake Wörthersee, the Viola semifinals turned out to be an incredibly competitive and close affair. Due to ex aequo scores, there will be 4 finalists instead of 3:

We heartily congratulate the 5 chamber music ensembles, who have been selected by our jury members to go through to the semi-finals! 🌟🎹🎻

We are looking forward to a very exciting second round, points were close and two of the ensembles had the exact same score!

In the protestant church in Pörtschach, our jury members in the violin category almost needed divine guidance. They had the very difficult task of selecting our semi-finalists from 51 courageous participants!

Thank you all for your great contribution to our competition, on Wednesday we will welcome 14 violinists to the second round. Good luck!🎻👏

A prelude and fugue by Bach, an etude by Chopin and a piece by Johannes Brahms were to be performed in the first round of our Piano Competition. In the end, our judges decided that 11 of our contestants had found the perfect harmony between these very different pieces.

Thank you all for competing and listening, and a special round of applause for the 11 semi-finalists! 💥🎹
