Through my experience working as a director of photography, I have produced a wide variety of advertising content for several well-established brands. For most of the year I am based in the France, in the Hautes-Pyrénées region, although I frequently travel back and forth to London. How did you become a videographer and photographer? It has not been a quick process, that’s for sure! I bought my fi
rst camera at age 17 (which was a little ‘GoPro session’) which I would use to film short BMX and skateboard videos. Having a camera was incredibly exciting – it encouraged me to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new tricks all in the hope that I would capture it! Fast forward a few years later, I chose to do a ski season where I would shoot videos with a GoPro and small drone in my spare time. However, during my time in the alps I realised that I was being held back by the gear I had. Therefore, I decided to buy my first proper video/photo camera. At this point I was completely overwhelmed with the number of settings and controls – I did not have a clue what they meant! So, I did what everyone else would do and watched hundreds of YouTube videos! After spending hours each day watching online courses and webinars, I started to realise that I was obsessed with videography/photography and that I wanted to pursue this as a career. What is your favourite part of the creative process? I cannot pick a favourite aspect in particular – I love the whole process. Having said this, the most important part for me is trying to achieve something new and different with every creative project I work on. What equipment do you use? After a couple of years of being a freelance photographer and videographer I have collected a wide variety of camera equipment including lighting, lenses, drones and cameras – all of which I use on various shoots. Having this equipment at my disposal as a videographer and photographer, allows my clients to have a rapid turnaround time, as well flexibility in terms of the content that they may are looking for. My most frequently used camera is the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6k and I use this for studio videos and advertising material. Having the ability to shoot in 6k resolution really comes in handy when delivering content for Instagram and other social media platforms, especially when shooting marketing campaigns, as it allows me to crop and reposition videos without sacrificing image quality! What programs do you work with for post-production. For photo retouching, I use both Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. In terms of video editing, I tend to use Premiere Pro with After Effects and then Davinci Resolve for colourist work. What is your favourite thing to shoot
Filming action sports has always excited me. I love participating in the sports themselves and creatively, I enjoy trying to get as close as I can to the subject to capture unique angles. As my career has evolved, product videography and photography has become something that I really enjoy. Having the creative freedom of experimenting with green screens, various tools and VFX, all in order to make products come to life, gives me an immense feeling of creative satisfaction! What is your bucket list shot, something you have always wanted to photograph or
film. Despite my love for filming product videos and action sports, I have always had a huge emotional attachment to our planet and wildlife. I hope that in the near future, I’m able to create a piece of content that showcases wild orcas as well as their natural surroundings – I don’t know why but I’ve just always been fascinated by orcas, they’re such majestic animals!
