IMZ Members and TV professionals gathered last week in Vienna to judge the Semi-Final Round of the International Emmy Awards in the “Arts Programming” category. The jury had the tough task of selecting the very best in international arts content.

Beyond the screenings and jury discussions, there was also time for a networking reception with inspiring conversations and a memorable behind-the-scenes look at the iconic MusikTheater an der Wien.

Deadline extended: 10 more days to submit your dance film to dancescreen 2025 – in partnership with InShadow Festival ⭐️

This 2025 edition will take place in late November in Lisbon’s Casa do Comum and Teatro do Bairro. Submit your film by 30 June for the chance to be screened and take part in the competition.

The Film Festival at Vienna’s Rathausplatz kicks off tomorrow with ‘Billie Eilish – Live at The O2’ lighting up the big screen!

For this year’s edition, we’ve curated a diverse programme of nearly 100 music films – from pop/rock festivals and stadium shows to jazz sessions and musicals to grand opera and orchestral productions. For our younger audience, the Kids Opera Festival starts on 4 July with a special selection of enchanting music films.

There’s truly something for everyone – if you’re in Vienna this summer, come and enjoy unforgettable open-air screenings in the heart of the city!

Double win for 'Leonard Cohen: Behind the Iron Curtain' at Sunny Side of the Doc 🏆

This powerful documentary earned both the Arts & Entertainment Pitch Award and the IMZ Special Prize, honouring its moving portrayal of Cohen’s legendary 1985 tour of Poland — a journey that turned his music into a quiet anthem for resistance behind the Iron Curtain.

Congratulations to Nomad Films, Fireglory Pitctures, and Silver Frame for bringing this untold story to life. We can’t wait to welcome you at Avant Première 2026!

Join us tomorrow for our panel on the role of public broadcasters in programming cultural and performing arts content. Representatives from RAI, Arte, RTP, ORF and MBC studios will discuss how they navigate editorial decisions, audience expectations and the evolving media landscape—while staying true to their public service mission.

Under the open skies of Zagreb, three cinematic gems come to life at the Zagreb Classic Open Air Festival – Bizet’s Carmen from Covent Garden, Disney’s Fantasia, and Strauss’ rarely seen Das Spitzentuch der Königin at MusikTheater an der Wien, marking his 200th anniversary.

Presented as part of the Vienna Music Film Festival in collaboration with Puskas & Puskas Stage Media Productions + Zagreb Tourism + Austrian Cultural Forum Zagreb.

Bringing classical music to the screen lies at the heart of the IMZ’s mission – which is why we were proud to collaborate with Classical:NEXT on the very first Film Showcases this year!

From memorable screenings to great conversations with the filmmakers, it was a joy to spotlight outstanding productions and promote dialogue between the classical music and film communities.
