To mark the 90th anniversary of Alban Berg's violin concerto, a competition was organised by the Alban Berg Foundation with the support of Universal Edition. The jury has now anonymously selected Ingi Kim's work 默考 III (Meditation III) for solo violin and chamber orchestra as the winning composition. The world premiere of the winning work will take place on 8 March 2026 at the Musikverein Vienna with the Webern Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop and Josef Špaček as soloist. We are delighted that Ingi Kim has won an annual subscription to scodo through this competition and can now publish his sheet music in our catalogue!

Applications open until 20 June!

The Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and Universal Edition were jointly launching the International Competition for Young Composers. The composition competition will take place every two years, alternating between a chamber music work and an orchestral work, starting in 2025 with a call for a chamber music work with a duration between 10 and 12 minutes. Contestants must be born in 1990 or later. There are no nationality restrictions.

Universal Edition, Forum Gitarre Wien, and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) are delighted to announce the winners of the guitar composition competition, which was announced in autumn 2024. The diversity of musical styles and the high level of compositional quality of the submitted works lead to the jury's decision to award two compositions this year.
