This summer the flights to Yerevan were a little special.
The runway undergoes major maintenance so roughly 1/3 of the runway is closed and the threshold is displaced by around 1000m. This brings some serious differences to our approach. No ILS approach and because of GPS jamming no GPS based approach. That night we opted for the VOR approach. Also the PAPI (precision approach path indicator) is unusable. Yerevan has only runways edge and threshold lights. With a shallow approach the optical illusion is challenging. Teamwork, preparation and alertness together make for a safe and efficient operation.
