Under the open skies of Zagreb, three cinematic gems come to life at the Zagreb Classic Open Air Festival – Bizet’s Carmen from Covent Garden, Disney’s Fantasia, and Strauss’ rarely seen Das Spitzentuch der Königin at MusikTheater an der Wien, marking his 200th anniversary.

Presented as part of the Vienna Music Film Festival in collaboration with Puskas & Puskas Stage Media Productions + Zagreb Tourism + Austrian Cultural Forum Zagreb.

Bringing classical music to the screen lies at the heart of the IMZ’s mission – which is why we were proud to collaborate with Classical:NEXT on the very first Film Showcases this year!

From memorable screenings to great conversations with the filmmakers, it was a joy to spotlight outstanding productions and promote dialogue between the classical music and film communities.

With a 30+ year legacy, dancescreen celebrates the best in dance film and offers global visibility through its awards.

Ready to take your filmmaking skills to the next level? Join us at the Dance House Helsinki (10–14 June) for a unique IMZ Academy workshop on live directing of dance performances – a hands-on course led by award-winning experts in collaboration with Tanssin talo.

Learn to script, visualise, and direct ballet + contemporary dance, and get the chance to film a live performance with the dancers of Raekallio Corp.

Thanks to past participants Andrea Lupi, Yash Kathrotia and Klas Karterud for sharing how the workshop transformed their approach to live directing.

Today, we celebrate the 100th birthday of Pierre Boulez—composer, conductor, and trailblazer of contemporary classical music. A visionary both on stage and in media, he played a key role in bringing modern music to new audiences.

Boulez’s groundbreaking work extended to audiovisual productions, and the IMZ was honoured to count him among its Honorary Members. His legacy continues to inspire us all.

Public service media are vital in bringing performing arts and cultural diversity to screens across Europe and beyond. Can they keep pace amid growing private competition, economic uncertainty, and rapid technological change?

At Avant Première 2025, top executives from public broadcasters emphasised the need for stronger cooperation, adaptability, and new tools to preserve this bedrock of democratic and cultural representation.

It's a wrap! Avant Première 2025 brought together over 450 participants from around the world for four days of the newest music and dance film screenings, thought-provoking talks and panels, and countless networking opportunities.

Whether you joined us as a participant, speaker, artist or partner – thank you for being a part of it!

We explored the latest trends in cultural broadcasting, discovered 500 exciting new productions, and discussed the topics that are shaping our industry – from the importance of public broadcasting to virtual reality, new formats for new platforms, green productions, and much more.

We are thrilled with the success of our two new formats: the Distributor Spotlight, which gave distributors the opportunity to present their latest productions in greater depth, and the IMZ Pitching Session, which provided five pitchers with the chance to showcase outstanding documentary projects.
