dancescreen 2025: that’s a wrap! 🎊

What an incredible two weeks at .festival in Lisbon for this year’s edition of dancescreen – packed with dance screenings, great conversations and plenty of creative energy. Together with our jury, we watched a strong programme of 90 dance films and documentaries, and celebrated two outstanding filmmakers at Teatro do Bairro.

A big thank you to InShadow and VoArte for the great partnership, to .portugal for the lovely wine at our reception, to our committed jury, and to all participants who brought this edition to life.

See you in 2028 for the next edition!

🏆 dancescreen 2025 – Videodance Award

The IMZ and the InShadow Festival are delighted to award HAMMER by Zacharie Ellia (France) the Best Videodance – Jorge Salavisa Award!

A bold, 16mm work blending punk and contemporary dance, HAMMER features performers from the Paris Opera Ballet and captures raw physicality at the heart of the experience.

👏 Honourable Mention: The Joy and Sorrow of Time by Sara Jordan (Denmark) – a poetic reflection on memory, time, and movement.

dancescreen 2025 – Documentary Award

The IMZ and the InShadow Festival are delighted to award Bull’s Heart by Eva Stefani (Greece) the Best Documentary – Luna Andermatt Award!

Bull's Heart is a multifaceted portrait of Greek artist Dimitris Papaioannou during the creation of new work in the pandemic period. The film offers a rare insight into artistic process, discipline, and vulnerability.

👏 Honourable Mention: I froze by Anouk Suntjens (Netherlands) – a moving short documentary following dancer Gianine Strang’s journey of recovery through movement.

The International Emmy Awards for Arts Programming goes to 'Ryuichi Sakamoto: Last Days' — produced by long-standing IMZ Member NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation). ✨

A warm congratulations to NHK for this moving and beautifully crafted portrait of one of the most influential artists of our time.

As the annual hosts of the Semi-Final Round of Judgings for the Arts Programming category in Vienna, we’re glad to see this year’s results announced. Congratulations as well to all winners recognised last night's Gala in New York!

dancescreen 2025 Official Selection ✨

We’re thrilled to unveil the official selection of dancescreen 2025, organised in collaboration with the InShadow Festival.

The competition is divided into two categories: the Videodance Competition featuring 74 films from 29 countries across, and the Documentary Competition presenting 21 films from 18 countries. Among these entries are works by renowned choreographers such as IMZ Honorary Member Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, chorégraphe (BE), Dimitris Papaioannou (GR), and John Neumeier (USA), alongside compelling stories from artists worldwide, including the first performance of the National Ballet of Ukraine following the outbreak of war.

dancescreen 2025 will take place in Lisbon from 19 to 29 November, across several venues in the city, as part of the 17th edition of the InShadow Lisbon ScreenDance Festival.

The IMZ Performing Arts Documentary Pitching Session open call is now live! 📣

We’re on the lookout for films that explore the impact of the performing arts on individuals, communities, and cultures across the globe.

The nominated pitches get a chance to present their projects in front of industry leaders in Berlin for a chance to win a €5,000 cash prize.
