How is the African continent being represented in Austrian schoolbooks? 🌍📚

As of now, many textbooks in History and Geography depict the living realities on the African continent in a very one-sided way. By almost exclusively focusing on poverty, hunger and conflict, the books that children learn from omit important parts of Africa’s history and present. This leads to racialized discrimination of kids with African heritage and instills stereotypical thinking in Austrian schoolchildren from a very young age.

The initiative AEWTASS aims to improve the image of Africa that is being conveyed in Austrian classrooms. Hear more about this important work in the podcast available through ’s bio! 🎙️

Putting care at the heart of democracy 🧡

's recent podcast episode highlights the Democratic Odyssey Assembly held in Vienna on 23-25 May. The initiative aims to strengthen the political participation of non-EU citizens and stateless people in Europe.

🚨 By doing so, it addresses the recent struggle of democracies in Europe, who have failed to find adequate responses to the demographic changes our societies have seen. In Vienna for example, 33% of the population have no Austrian citizenship and are therefore excluded from federal elections. Their voices are not captured by conventional systems of political participation.

💡 The assembly in Vienna marked the third and final in a series of citizen gatherings throughout Greece, Italy and Austria. The participants presented their vision for a more participatory, caring and courageous democracy - an inclusive democracy that brings all citizens back to the table. 🏛️
