We are fans of Katharina Grosse‘s work, having placed her works with some of our clients in the past. Therefore we are more than happy to see her new massive work at Messeplatz Basel right before the start of Art Basel.

German artist Günther Uecker paved the way for the nail in art history. For decades he hammered carpenter’s nails into chairs, pianos and canvases. Now he has died in Düsseldorf at the age of 95. Uecker was one of the most important German post-war artists. He introduced the carpenter’s nail to art and created world-famous nail reliefs. For him, the nail fields were always diary-like landscapes of the soul, which he called „sentimental landscapes“.

Once again Vienna’s Ringturm has been transformed into an oversized artwork. This year it is being wrapped by Polish artist Marcin Maciejowski and looks like an oversized library.

The side facing the Danube Canal shows a wall of books, while the back reads “This book will not only become my story, but also yours” in German and Polish.

The artwork covers 4,000 square meters of printed panels.

Back from Gallery Weekend Berlin, the sculptures by Leilah Babirye are particularly memorable. Her works were already on display at the last Venice Biennale.

Leilah Babirye’s sculptures are very much about appearance and reality. Who are we and who do we pretend to be? Babirye, who was born in Kampala, Uganda in 1985, is famous for her ambivalent figures that cannot be assigned to any gender. Babirye finds the model for her faces with open mouths, graphic noses and long necks in African art history. They present real or imagined portraits.

She drapes bicycle chains and wheels into headdresses, piling them extravagantly high over the heads and faces made of wood, ceramic or expensive bronze. There is something alive and vibrant about it.

Fantastic exhibition opening of Klara Hosnedlova’s new installation at Hamburger Bahnhof.

Hosnedlová’s largest expansive, sculptural scenery to date is created from tapestries up to nine meters high, site-specific objects, organic-looking reliefs and large-scale embroideries. The embroidery templates are film and video recordings of performative interventions staged by the artist in Berlin. The content is based on architecture, films and novels that characterize the cultural memory of the last centuries in the border regions of today’s Czech Republic.

Exclusive visit with our artclub at Hong Zeiss’ studio. The Taiwanese artist studied in the class of Heimo Zobernig.

As a result of an intensive theoretical study, especially with Kantian aesthetics, in his painterly work Zeiss examines the sensual effects of nature and how they can be captured through abstraction. They are underpinned by broader philosophical and historical questions about representation, aesthetics, and the autonomy of art.

Contemporary Argentinian painter and printmaker Mariela Scafati uses unframed monochrome canvases to create three-dimensional objects and installations. Her works are hanging in ways that often obstruct or jut out of the wall, similarly to an item of clothing or piece of furniture.

Scafati‘s work is part of many institutional collections such as the Reina Sofia Madrid, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum New York or the Deutsche Nationalgalerie Berlin.

Her current solo show at Galería Travesía Cuatro in Guadalajara can be recommended
