For the third year in a row, the BCA’s Regulation Rumble report has confirmed what we’ve long known - South Australia leads the nation with the most competitive tax, regulatory, and planning settings for doing business.

This recognition speaks to the hard work of our business community, policymakers, and the many people committed to making SA a place where innovation and investment can thrive. It’s fantastic to see our state continuing to build a business environment that is stable, supportive, and primed for growth.

Here’s to keeping the momentum going and unlocking even more opportunities for South Australians. 💼🌱

Last week’s Women in Innovation Awards was a standout moment for South Australia’s innovation community, and an especially proud one for us at Innovate Adelaide, as we celebrated the achievements of SKOOT Community Access and its two remarkable female founders.

SKOOT was nominated for-and went on to win- the Social Impact Award, a recognition that reflects both the calibre of their work and the vision driving it. Being shortlisted alongside so many exceptional women innovators was an achievement in itself; winning the award underscores the transformative potential of their mission.

SKOOT’s innovation is breaking down barriers that have long limited people’s ability to access essential services, support, and opportunities. By rethinking traditional systems and redesigning them around real human needs, SKOOT is giving individuals greater freedom, independence, and agency- particularly those who have historically faced exclusion or structural disadvantage.

Their work shows what’s possible when technology, empathy, and determination intersect. It’s social impact at its best: practical, scalable, and deeply empowering.

We’re proud to champion SKOOT as part of South Australia’s growing innovation ecosystem. Their success reflects the strength of our local founders-and the positive change that happens when bold ideas are backed with purpose and persistence.

Congratulations to the SKOOT team on this well-deserved recognition. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next.

Feeling incredibly proud of my friend’s Sasha Dragovelic Leandro Lopez Digon Michelle English and John Joseph Janet Wootton and the remarkable work coming out of the City of Salisbury, SA, Australia and Polaris Business Development Center

Their SalisburyPlus Economic Development and Growth Strategy being recognised at the 2025 Planning Institute of Australia State Awards is a truly outstanding achievement. Earning the President’s Award is no small feat, and it reflects the depth of vision, collaboration and commitment behind this strategy.

It’s inspiring to see such strong leadership from Leandro Lopez Digon and the dedication of the Polaris Business Development Centre team, along with everyone across Strategic Urban Planning and Economic Development. The acknowledgement of so many contributors speaks volumes about the culture of teamwork and shared purpose that drives this success.

Congratulations to all involved, from the council and executive leadership to the communications and marketing team who helped bring the strategy to life.

Achievements like this don’t happen by accident; they are built on passion, expertise and a genuine desire to create positive impact for the community. I’m immensely proud to be associated with this magnificent team who’s work is now an exemplar for the whole country!

📢 Saving Whyalla Steelworks: Why It Matters for South Australia and Beyond! 🛠️🌱

The $2.4 billion rescue package for Whyalla Steelworks is more than just a lifeline for a business—it’s a vital investment in our state's future. Here’s why it’s so important:

🔥 Economic Impact: The steelworks is a major employer in Whyalla, supporting thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Its closure would have been devastating for local families and businesses, hitting the region's economy hard.

🇦🇺 National Importance: Whyalla produces essential steel products, including rail, that are critical for Australia’s infrastructure projects. Without local production, we’d risk becoming overly reliant on costly and less secure imports.

🌱 Regional Development: Keeping the steelworks open boosts the economic viability of regional South Australia, potentially inspiring other industries to invest in the area. It’s a win for local communities and for the state's growth.

🚀 Green Future: The investment in greener technologies at Whyalla could position it as a leader in sustainable steel production, aligning with global trends towards carbon neutrality and a cleaner future.

This isn’t just about saving a business—it’s about protecting jobs, fostering innovation, and securing a critical industry for Australia's future.

What do you think? Is saving Whyalla Steelworks the right move for South Australia? 🤔👇

🚀 Fleet Space Technologies Unveils ‘Hyper Factory’ at Adelaide Airport!

Exciting news for South Australia’s space industry! Fleet Space Technologies is set to build a state-of-the-art ‘hyper factory’ at Adelaide Airport, marking a bold new chapter for Australian space manufacturing. This 5,300 square metre facility will not only double as the global headquarters for Fleet but also significantly scale the production of its smart sensors and nanosatellites—reaching outputs of thousands of sensors and hundreds of satellites annually!

The hyper factory, named GHQ, will feature cutting-edge R&D labs, 3D printing technologies, and an AI supercomputer dubbed ExoCore to power the company’s low-Earth orbit satellite networks. It’s also designed to boost the capabilities of ExoSphere, Fleet’s innovative platform that enables companies like Rio Tinto to perform 3D subsurface mapping for critical minerals—without breaking ground.

Fleet’s co-founder and CEO, Flavia Tata Nardini, described GHQ as a “significant leap into the future,” highlighting the company’s vision to transform exploration both on Earth and beyond. This move follows the collapse of the Australian Space Park project but demonstrates Fleet’s resilience and commitment to pushing the boundaries of space technology.

With a recent $150 million funding boost and a valuation of over $800 million, Fleet Space is clearly setting its sights on revolutionising the space industry and supporting a net-zero future. This is a huge win for Adelaide and a significant step forward for Australia’s space ambitions!

Adelaide Airport Named Capital City Airport of the Year for Pioneering Innovation and Inclusion

Adelaide Airport has been named Capital City Airport of the Year at the 2024 Australian Airports Association National Airport Industry Awards, marking its second win in three years. The recognition highlights the airport's innovation, sustainability efforts, and exceptional customer experience.
Managing Director Brenton Cox credited the entire team for their dedication, emphasizing the award reflects a broad range of initiatives rather than a single project. Key achievements include:
Partnering with Virgin Australia on a "Try Before You Fly" event to support travellers with disabilities and health conditions.
Resurfacing the main runway and taxiways using sustainable methods, including 15,500 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt pavement—an Australian first.
Maintaining service levels during significant baggage and security upgrades that incorporate cutting-edge technology.
Looking ahead, the airport plans to expand its check-in hall, gates, aerobridges, and pick-up/drop-off facilities while continuing its focus on sustainability and innovation. These efforts reinforce Adelaide Airport’s national and international leadership in the airport industry.
