Adelaide cant even protect a building connected to Australia's only recognised Catholic Saint, Mary MacKillop. Given the current pope-mania you'd think there would be increased interest but if this cant be saved we will have to pray for a miracle to save anything else... religious or not the fact that this is slated for demolition is a bad omen for things to come.
🏛️ SAVING 69 HIGH STREET, KENSINGTON
📅 Monday 19 May 2025, 6:30pm
📍 Council Chambers, 1st Floor, Norwood Town Hall (entry via George Street)
A valuable part of Kensington’s history is at risk. This Local Heritage listed property has an application in for demolition.
🏘️ Why is saving it important?
This building was originally the School House, constructed in the 1840s–1850s to educate the children of Kensington Village.
Very few buildings from this period still exist in Kensington. Losing it would affect the charm of High Street & undermine the heritage conservation that help protect the character of our suburb.
We’ve received expert advice that the house is readily repairable and can be made safe for both residents and the public.
The Kensington Residents’ Association has lodged a formal submission opposing the demolition & will be making a 5-minute presentation.
The more Kensington residents who attend to support, the stronger our message will be.
🙋♀️🙋♂️ Please come along and help protect our local heritage. Let’s show the Council that this building matters to our community.
