🚨OPPORTUNITY ALERT!🚨Calling all LGBTQIA+ storytellers! Applications are open for the AFF x PFA Short Film Initiative — this Adelaide Film Festival and Pride Foundation Australia short film initiative will give one Australian LGBTQIA-identifying creative team a $60,000 grant to produce a short film to premiere at AFF 2027. The Adelaide Independent Film Festival (AIFF) returns from 3–4 October with 17 short films curated by 2026 Guest Programmer Anthony Frith, including four SA made shorts:

🎬️ IF/WHEN (dir. Courtney Westbrook)
🎬️ RUN KOALA RUN (dir. James Calvert)
🎬️ THE CRANKER (dir. Lyra Noblet)

The 2026 Jury includes acclaimed SA actors and filmmakers Damon Herriman, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Alies Sluiter, Emerson Hoskin and the SAFC's own Program Coordinator Julia Light.

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF STORM BOY 🌊 The SAFC was delighted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of STORM BOY last month with a special screening presented in partnership with 891 ABC Adelaide and The Mercury – and now you can see it on the big screen too. Released in 1976, STORM BOY is one of Australia’s most beloved and enduring films, inspiring and entertaining generations of children. Relive the magic on Sunday, 13 September at The Mercury, with a special double feature of STORM BOY and PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK co-presented by the SAFC.

🎉NEWS!🎉 Adelaide-born actor and screen creative Damon Herriman was presented with the CinefestOZ 2026 Screen Legend Award, which honours an Australian actor or filmmaker of international repute. He also took out Best Screenplay in the CinefestOZ Short Film Awards for CANDY BAR.

And SA made short film LIABILITY from writer/director David Daradan and producer Jasmine J. Leech won the Diversity & Inclusion Award. The short was produced through The Mercury Quicksilver initiative with support from the SAFC.
