It’s All Good, Gilbert

When you enter Good Gilbert it’s hard to miss the bottles that stand pride of place on the top of the bar.
Particularly eye-catching are the numerous champagne magnums – trophies of a time well had; celebrations marked with the saberage of an amazing bubbly drop.
Good Gilbert is ALL about heart., And good wine. And good food. And good times. Open up this book and share in all these things and more – including GG’s relationships with producers, suppliers and other Adelaide venues – with the people that make it, well, far better than just good. They’re the things that make it a hospitality great. 🍾
✋ Please note: orders are sent to print on purchase, we can't guarantee delivery in time for christmas due to it being a busy period.

Introducing our new comedy series: SPLIT BILL! Hosted (Curated) by 🔗 link in bio

A ‘split bill’ is when two comedians pair up to do one half of a show each. Sometimes the comedians are friends, or sometimes they’re shoved together out of convenience, but always the hope is that the two halves compliment and resonate with one another to appeal to a common audience. It’s a good deal for everyone: you get to be introduced to your new favourite comedian, and a comedian gets to make a new fan. Then of course most importantly, and most unusually, the comedians get to make a bit of money.

HUGE NEWS! We are delighted to announce the upcoming publication of New Voices on Food volume 2 from .au in November. Edited once again by the inimitable and following on from the success of 2020’s initial volume, this second anthology is a little book on food and identity that, we believe, simply cannot be missed.

Featuring a fresh selection of new and emerging voices from a wide variety of under-represented backgrounds and tied around a theme of Past, Present and Future, it promises to open your mind to new perspectives, foods and ways of thinking. A reminder that food can be a powerful time-travel machine – a symbol of 65,000 years of knowledge, as well as a representation of a possible, hopeful future – the contributors’ stories will send you through through different timelines, perspectives and offer one-of-a-kind ways to be moved by food.

Because difference is everything and new voices should always, ALWAYS be heard!

Printing and shipping in November and available for pre-order from our website TODAY.

Introducing Ourkind… and Eat This! ✨✨📕💥

Ourkind is an exciting new collection of some of our favourite independent publications from Australia and further afield. And kicking off this collection is Eat This!, a killer new bi-annual food zine from Melbourne-based food writer and author Jade O’Donahoo.

In Jade’s words, ‘Eat THIS! is intended to make cooking and food culture easy, accessible and appealing to all! Each issue has a cultural theme and features a collection of recipes, as well as family stories and traditions of that culture. All recipes are meat-free and have gluten-free options, as this reflects the way I cook and eat at home. The purpose of the zine is not only to highlight the traditional vegetarian meals from all cultures, but also to unite people through parallels between different cultures.’

The first issue is Italian, and feels particularly special as it reflects Jade’s own cultural heritage. More than 35 recipes, many collected from her own nonna, are presented across four chapters (Everyday Eating, Sundays and Celebrations, Sweets, and Cheers!), with handy tips, food traditions and family stories woven throughout. Jade hopes the zine will inspire readers to look at their own family’s customs, and keep these precious traditions alive.

The zine is available for $15 from our website now (Australia only) and for those of you interested in glorious, authentic homecooked Italian food keep an eye out here as we will be posting the details of a delicious Tomato Crostata shortly! Further titles will be added to Ourkind in the next few weeks, so be sure also to sign up to our newsletter and check in on our site, too, as we look to build out this exciting new online store offering.

This is a Somekind profit share pie (our Take away season 1) and a rather tasty number, too. We believe that EVERYONE who makes our books deserves to benefit & none more so than our amazing authors/venues, who take a clear 50% of the total, with no quibbly little clauses or binds that result in them getting anything less. (That’s only fair, right? Without them our books wouldn’t exist!)

That leaves another 40% to be split between the editors, designers, illustrators and the other incredible creatives who go into putting the whole together. And that little wedge? That’s the 10% that we take as a publisher. Not a lot, but the flipped traditional model – with the publisher taking c.90% – seems, to us, a little, well… greedy.

After all, if we’ve all done our job properly then there should be plenty to go around - and shouldn’t those who’ve poured their love, care, time and effort into something this delicious get the biggest piece?
