In a landmark move set to transform Adelaide’s Pride celebrations, Pride Adelaide has announced that the 2024 Pride March will take a new route, moving east into the heart of the city. This dramatic change promises to breathe fresh life into the festivities and marks the beginning of a new era for the LGBTQIA+ community in South Australia.
For years, the Pride March has been a staple of Adelaide’s November calendar, drawing thousands of participants and spectators. However, this year, the shift eastwards represents the biggest shakeup in the history of the event, aiming to increase visibility and inclusivity by taking the march directly through the city’s vibrant core.
“Pride Adelaide has always been about celebrating diversity and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community,” said Eric Kulhmann, Chair of Pride Adelaide. “This new route through the city’s heart is a powerful statement of our visibility and pride. We’re thrilled to bring this transformative experience to the heart of Adelaide.”
The change is part of a broader strategy to make Pride more accessible and engaging for a wider audience. By integrating the march into the city’s bustling centre, organisers hope to attract more allies and community members, fostering greater solidarity and support.
“This isn’t just about changing a route; it’s about making a bold statement that Pride is for everyone, everywhere,” added Kulhmann. “We want everyone to feel included, and bringing the march into the city is a crucial step towards that goal.”
March registrations have opened for what is set to be the biggest Pride March in recent memory. This year’s event promises to be the most dynamic and inclusive Pride celebration Adelaide has ever seen.
Taking things to even bigger heights, the 2024 celebrations are set to hit new heights as Pride Adelaide partners with Poppin Out, a collaborative initiative with the renowned LGBTQIA+ venue Mary’s Poppin. This partnership is anticipated to significantly amplify the scale and impact of the event, ensuring it stands as the largest single-day Pride celebration in South Australia’s history.
