Notice of YouX Referendum

This notification is being published on behalf of YouX under clause 25.1 and 27.1.1 of the YouX Constitution following a successful petition to recall YouX’s Board.

YouX is now required to hold a referendum to put the requested motion from the petition to a vote by students at the University of Adelaide.

Voting is not compulsory, but if you wish to vote in the referendum, a physical voting booth will be available at the following location and times:
29th October – 9:00am to 4:00pm
30th October – 9:00am – 4:00pm
31st October – 9:00am – 4:00pm

Location: GM405 Student Boardroom, Level 4 Union House

The referendum will ask the following question:
Should the Board of YouX be recalled, which will result in the Board ceasing to hold office and YouX being managed by the Executive Officer?

You can vote YES if you think this motion should pass, or NO if you think this motion should not pass.

Reasons for: There has been a successful petition to recall YouX’s Board. Recalling the Board would reflect the wishes of students who signed that petition.

Reasons against: YouX’s Board has been very involved in YouX’s transition to its successor upon the merger of the University of Adelaide and UniSA. This makes the current Board uniquely experienced to manage YouX in the final transition stages. There are not enough academic days left in the academic year to call and hold an election for a new Board, as was anticipated by YouX’s constitution. This means that the administration of YouX falls to the Executive Officer, who will manage its affairs up until the date YouX ceases to operate.

Your vote can only be cast in-person as per Schedule 3 to the AUU Constitution, Section 4.2. A voting booth will be available at the location and times outlined above. You will need to bring your current Student ID card with you, this will be checked and verified by polling staff prior to voting.

If you have any questions or concerns about the referendum, please address them to [email protected]
