This beautifully preserved 1962 EK Holden Special Sedan, owned by Rob Kavanagh, is a true piece of Australian motoring history, on display at Coffee & Classics – GEPPS X car meet. An original vehicle, it’s powered by the factory 138ci inline 6-cylinder engine and features the desirable Hydramatic transmission. Originally sold by the nephew of the first owner to a NSW car collector, the Holden was carefully kept for over 20 years. In 2019, driven by childhood memories of EK Holdens, Rob placed an advertisement in Just Cars Magazine, prepared to pay top dollar for the right example. The collector answered, and the rest is history. Finished in classic Montana Grey and Grecian White, with original 1962 trim, this EK is a stunning survivor. Originally ordered as a 307 V8 with a Powerglide and 10-bolt L*D, this legendary Aussie muscle icon has been reborn with a brutal 427ci V8 pumping out an impressive 550hp. Power is delivered through a Turbo 350 transmission with a lock-up converter, giving this Monaro serious street and strip attitude.
Finished in eye-catching Bright Blue metallic paint with a beautiful Parchment interior, the car blends breathtaking presentation with raw performance. Meet “Dorothy,” the Horkings Family’s beautifully restored 1952 Chevrolet Suburban proudly displayed at the 2025 Adelaide Auto Expo. Built in Kansas City, USA in June 1952, this classic Suburban carries incredible history and character. They call her Dorothy for a reason – she’s a tough old girl with stories to tell. Dorothy spent many years serving in the US Air Force, working hard and earning her place in American automotive heritage, before retiring to sunny Florida where she lived out the rest of her American life.
In 2020, Dorothy made the long journey to Australia, beginning a new chapter down under. Over the following five years, she underwent an impressive restoration, carefully brought back to life with passion, patience, and respect for her past. Under the hood, she now runs a strong 350 Chev engine producing a mild but lively 400hp, paired with a Turbo 700 transmission, giving this vintage Suburban the perfect balance of classic charm and modern drivability.
Dorothy is more than just a car – she’s history, family pride, and a true showcase of dedication and craftsmanship.
