We are a couple of audio-visual storytellers who brew metaphors to concoct smiles, tears and other things in between. In Quechua, one of the Native South American language families, Karu-Karu means "very far away". We're incredibly grateful to share that 'Wishes' has hit a major milestone in both, the animation and academic/research worlds! 🚀

Our pilot has officially been recognised as a peer-reviewed creative work and juried exhibition at Oscar®-qualifying, SIGGRAPH Asia 2025 (one of the leading international festivals for computer animation), hosted by the Association for Computing Machinery , the international peak research body in the field! 🤓

The organiser's feedback was especially rewarding, sharing that the work was "vetted by a committee of experts for both technical and aesthetic innovation."

It's amazing to reflect on how the wonderful humans in our team, so easily jump between the creative and the technical.💜💚🐦

There aren't enough words to express how much I love doing what I do: From the sound design of a dental-tourist's plans gone wrong, or a retiree role-playing Titanic, to epic biblical sandstorms and the opportunity to recreate 2,000 year old soundscapes.

✨ How beautiful to have had "Wishes" in the official selection of the Australian Women's Film Festival 🌸 And what a wonderful opportunity to have worked with such an incredibly talented and good-hearted team; with half of our crew identifying as women or girls.

How beautiful to see "Wishes" in the Children Competition of the World Festival of Animated Film Varna 🌊🎬 next to a stunning group of animated films we really admire. 💜💚🐦

Starting in 1979, the WFAF Varna rightfully found its place as one of the historic “big five” animation festivals worldwide (alongside Annecy, Zagreb, Ottawa, and Hiroshima). After being paused in 1989, it was revived in 2011 and is now recognised by ASIFA as one of the most significant events for animation cinema in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

🌱 "Wishes" was born from that stubborn belief we have in creating the world we want to live in. What a privilege to offer our pilot for your consideration as part of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, amongst this group of amazing shorts (each of them deserving of the award). ✨

Inside every one of us there’s a box of wishes. Most have our name on them... But the most powerful wishes, are those that lie in our hearts but belong to someone else.
